Anyone here ever used Air Berlin before?  Apparently I can't check in online until 30 hours before, which is not ideal as I'll be in Russia then!  Also don't really want to be logging onto my phone to do it while abroad.  Are there fees associated with checking in at the airport - like with RyanAir, or is it a more respectable airline?

Find a Starbucks in St Petersburg, they have free wifi, check in from there.

Costs €15 to check in at the airport normally (which is probably only slightly more expensive than a coffee at Starbucks in St Petersburg...) Other than that not a bad airline I think, perhaps comparable to Flybe.

Sound then Starbucks it is - the hotel may even have free wifi, just a load of fannying about when I could be drinking vodka.

air berlin are tops in the chart of low cost carriers, the only comparable one i can think of off the top of my head is dragon air over in hong kong. Their pilot selection system is bloody hard too, only the very very best graduates get a job there.

Anyway, anyone on the ba flight from heathrow on wednesday morning?

Carra will have to start building up his away credits first Phil. He could start with Zenit as it should go to general sale.

Any ideas or guesses on how many reds will be out there?  Hoping for a bit of a get together and a sing song before the game, but if there's only about 80 of us I guess that's less likely!

To be fair i think most people who do travel will be staying in a fairly small area. Basically around the top of the Nevsky Prospekt and the main square by the Hermitage.

After all the money I've spent on warm clothes I'll be a bit disappointed if we get there and it's the same temperature as the UK.

Anyone got any Russian dough?

Got some left over from the Anzhi trip (200 roubles or so, which will at least pay for the tram ride from the airport...). Exchange rates seemed to be more favourable over there, so will not bother to get any more cash before I arrive in Russia.

Dear All,
Of course we'll be showing the Madrid - M.U. game! HD.
Everyone's welcome, I'll be in all all week to make sure you're looked after.

And you don't have to drink vodka, the Russians are really into the whiskey.
But if you do: top tip - request a snack - they never just drink it straight, they'll love it that you know.
Don't feel like you need to drink the Russian beer either! - the locals don't!

Looking forward to seeing you all,

James,   Dickens Pub, 108 Fontanka Canal.

Half the fun on these trips is drinking Sangria and Estrella in Spain, Superbock in Portugal and Peroni and Moretti in Italy - vodka all the way for me on this one.  Good that you're showing the six fingered cousin fuckers though, imagine there will be a decent crowd in for that.

It's snowing again down in the south, Gatwick Airport usually copes really badly with snow - fingers crossed it fucks off before Wednesday morning.
Luis Garcia... tries his luck........

Don't suppose there's any chance of a weakened team heading to Russia now, not after that performance and result - the players and manager owe the fans a bit of a performance, plus a run in this competition will give us a bit of a feel-good factor, which could very well be missing between now and the end of the season if we get eliminated.  Oddly much more confident of a result here after watching that performance at Anfield, and if not, lots and lots of vodka will make everything alright anyway.
