Gents,
In regards to the ZENIT match in Feb:
I've lived in St. Petersburg for 7 years now and this is THE warmest
winter we've had - it rained on xmas day. That's not to say that it wont
get cold. It might do, but I & the Russians deal with it so it can't be THAT bad, right?
I'm actually manager at 'Dickens Pub' over here and we'd be glad to host you all, give advice,
put you on the metro, get taxi's etc. The boss said you can even get your banners and
flags up outside if you want! - he's very keen to get real football fans in.
Our location:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=dickens+pub+st.+petersburg&hl=en&hq=dickens+pub&hnear=St+Petersburg,+gorod+Sankt-Peterburg,+Russia&t=m&z=13We're right in the centre on the main road from the airport, one metro stop
away from the stadium. [Sadovaya->Sportivnaya]
I could go on about the delicious grub & 40 different beers on tap but if
anyone wants a specific tipple I can order the kegs/bottles. Just let me know and
as long as they're big international brands we can get them in.
As for attitude of the Zenit fans - you might be surprised at how OVER-friendly they are.
Around the city you should be welcomed everywhere, get drinks bought for you,
and be drawn into intense friendly-macho-ism. There's also strong St.Petersburg-Liverpool
fan-base at the very least in our pub but there will be more of them.
Here's a link to the St. Petes, Liverpool fan site, for our pub:
http://www.liverbird.ru/pubs/11360/dikkensand another for the pub:
http://www.mydestination.com/stpetersburg/nightlife/179701/dickens-pubAs for the police - they won't be on a witch-hunt but do carry your documents with you at all times.
They occasionally ask to look at them and when they understand your British they'll leave you alone.
[so long as you've been good!]
So we'd be more than happy to host the Liverpool fans during your short stay,
I'll be in the pub everyday during that week, on-hand should you need any tips, hints or help.
Also glad to give any advice or answer any questions regarding St. Petersburg in advance,
So until February..,
James, Dickens Pub
