Great news about Lucas.. Hope it all goes well for him. Interesting to see Jonjo on the left. Much rather raheem plays there..hes much more of a threat from the left. Big game for the lads, really need to bounce back..
Yep, I thought Lucas would get his first game at Udinese but hopefully he can get a good hour in tomorrow. Jonjo played there for Blackpool. He does at least like to score a goal and will get in the box so it's not the worst idea in the world to have him and Suarez mixing it up.

Lucas starting sounds a strange idea. Mind you, so does playing shelvey on the left.

Couldn't give a Cleveland Steamer how we get the win; New Premier League record, a 4-3 classic, or a 94th minute Fabrice Fernandes OG, as long as we're on 19 points tomorrow, I'm golden.

I think he's got his first choice midfield out for just about the first time this season and probably that means Gerrard pushed on where he has to play although he will obviously mix it up. It will be interesting to see how much more Allen has got with the leash off and more freedom.

Probably first choice back 4 too. Shelvey from the left is interesting, he's not going to beat a man but he should have Enrique outside him all day allowing him to come inside and personally I think it's a crime to move Johnson from right back because he such a threat there albeit he is still good from the left.

I guess I quite like that side.

There's no way Downing will play in this after his poor showing at Spurs where he was caught ball watching for the 1st goal.

Neither will Henderson and its too soon for Lucas to start so I would think Sahin will start here.

Puncheon and Gaston Ramirez will be the dangermen for Southampton but I can see Luis grabbing a goal, hopefully two.

Would've gone with Suso myself, but I can see why BR's gone for Shelvey because he gets into goalscoring positions more often (though he hasn't been finishing them lately!).

I think Shelvey is there on the left to give us a presence in the box. That's one of our problems after all, no?

Makes sense especially considering most of our play will come through the side of the excellent Johnson, Sterling combo

Lucas starting, Shelvey playing from the left.

Looking at rumored starting XI this was what I had assumed. I assume Rodgers has some good reason not to put Gerrard in the front 3 I'd love to know them though. Shelvey will do a job in the front 3 as well, though.

Sterling can play left or right can't he mate?

If I'm right, think he will be on the left and Shelvey on the right.

He didn't though, he'd played pre-season and played against West Brom. That wasn't a case of him coming back too early. It was the fact we played him even when he felt a strain in warm upthat was the real killer. Some sort of strains would be inevitable after so long, but we took a risk we shouldn't have.

Pleased with that. Lots of games in quick succession. Need to rotate the squad a bit.

Think the temptation of starting Lucas against Udinese will be too much though.Hopefully we can get off to a similar start like that against Everton and bring Hendo on for Lucas at half time.

Thanks for the OP, before my time unfortunately but a great read nonetheless.

I remember drawing 3-3 with them after being 3-0 up, which was pretty bad and Gerrard's 35 yarder sticks out as well. Adkins has done a great job there though and would like them to stay up.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

Could actually be Gerrard in the front 3 for all we know. Unless you've been specifically told it's Shelvey on the left bigbear?

In my opinion, if you play one league game (west brom) then feel a niggle during the warm up of the next fixture, only a week later, its hardly 100% recouperation, whether it be the same injury or not. Would love to see him back on the bench and maybe if we're winning by two or looking comfotable in the lead then he could play the last 20 off the bench...

                Suarez
                         Sterling
   Shelvey      Gerrard
             Allen
                  Lucas
Enrique Agger Skrtel Johnson
                  Reina

or

                  Suarez
      Sterling         Gerrard
                     Shelvey
             Allen
                  Lucas
Enrique Agger Skrtel Johnson
                  Reina

Looks like our first choice XI to me.  Second layout looks like what Rodger's wants from what he gave away in Being Liverpool.

Been guilty of this myself, but I hope things like this, don't overwhelm the players:

I have to say that I liked Enrique on the left wing, much better compared to his full back performances. But Shelvey is a natural talented player who won´t do bad there at all I reckon.

Will be very interesting to see the midfield tomorrow, I am expecting a win, a convincing one!
