Ignoring his spell with us he’s had a very decent career.
I’d forgotten how highly rated he was at Wolves and his move to Coventry at the time was quite sensible. Did his stint at Inter help or hinder him?
Felt like he cane back to england at Leeds and was still on a decent career trajectory. His spells at Spurs either side of us were a bit of a step down at that time and he kind of excelled as a bigger fish in a smaller pond. He and Berbatov were a more than handy partnership.
Should we have held on to him for the rest of the 08/09 season? After a very slow start he had started to score more regularly and although not really fitting in to how we played we’d still have played him a fair bit after January with the regular absences Torres and Gerrard had.
That said our results picked up in the second half so wouldn’t necessarily have affected how the title race panned out.
Would be interesting to see what others think without slagging him too much for his stint here!
I've often thought we probably would have won the title if he stayed the whole season. Our lack of squad depth is what done us that year, and he was a handy forward.
I've always wondered what the deal was between us and Keane, why we sold him back etc. I know Rafa didn't want him here in the first place.
I always thought he was a decent player, maybe not world class, but good enough. Signed him as a 16 year old from Wolves on Champ Manager back in the day.
