Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini feels that he needs a bigger squad to compete for the Premier League title.

Reigning champions Manchester United have taken pole position in the title race in recent weeks, and Mancini feels his squad depth has let them down.

Despite spending over £200 million since taking charge two years ago, the Italian wants more investment.

"We lost Yaya and Kolo Toure for the African Nations Cup, had some injuries and lost Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Sergio Aguero in the last two games," bemoaned Mancini.

"Maybe next year if we lose two important players, we can have another two good players and we can change.

"Up to now, we have plugged away at building a strong team, so now I think three or four more players with a strong mentality will be enough to finish it.

"The difference is in 20 players, not the 11, and because they are used to staying on top, they play without problems.

"We maybe need time - but we have already arrived as one of the best teams in Europe.

"The difference with United is in their squad, not their starting eleven. Because they are used to always being at the top they can play without problems and they don't have the pressure we have, because they have won everything.

"When you play against a team like United, that is the difference - not the players."

He wouldn't have survived in any top league besides England with these results. HE would have been kicked out if it were an Italian club a year ago. Today I read an interview with Allegri, and Italian journos are already putting pressure on him asking if he is going to resign. The same is true with Luis Enrique, the man has not had the job for even a year, and it's a rebuilding project, yet, journos are putting pressure asking when he is resigning. I am amazed at how selective English media is. Certain ones are beyond criticism, and certain ones are easy targets.

I don't think it'd be a foregone conclusion if Rafa went to City actually. He'd have to deal with characters like Balotelli and Tevez with the media and fans on his back from the off. You got Yaya Toure who seems to have a questionable attitude too. Also it'd be interesting to see how he'd deal with potential unrest from players like Johnson, Milner, De Jong, etc.

A lot could still go wrong if he was given the job. As most of his know though, if he was given a little bit of time and support he'd turn City into world beaters.

As I said, the way he sticks for Balotelli has to piss off some of ManCity players. He is not as good as any other striker they have: Aguero, Tevez and Dzeko all are better players. Yet, he has started ahead of them, he has started ahead of them after repeated bad behavior, red cards, clubbing.

I don't understand, what is so notable about a selfish player who may score a goal here and there. He never combines well with other players, is anonymous most of the time. And he got another red. And deservedly so

Mancini is not doing wrong by having faith in a young player, but this has been over the top a year now. He doesn't give nearly as many chances to Johnson and other youngsters.
