We saw Owen's prime and in a few more years I think he'll be considered a legend for us.
2001 triple and the league cup in 2003 - he was hugely important in those.
Nah, I don't think Owen will ever be considered a true Legend. And it's not without regret that I say that.
He's an unusual one though, in that his failure to be a legend has nothing to do with how he performed for Liverpool (or for how long).
Rather, it was the manner of his departure and his actions ever since.
He burnt his bridges, then circled back around and pissed all over the charred remnants.
It's a pity really. I was born in 1988, and as a kid he was my hero.
And his stats are pretty impressive. 158 goals in 297 appearances in all comps, 118 in 216 in the league.
He's 7th in the all-time scorer list, at one time he was our all-time top scorer in Europe (having since been replaced by Gerrard).
He was top scorer at the club 7 years in a row.
Plus, as you say he was instrumental in the 2001 treble, and winning the 2003 League Cup.
At the time, I though it odd, the way the crowd never seemed to take him to the same way that it need for many other players.
Looking back, it seems that maybe others could see what perhaps my idolatry blinded me to - it was never about the club, it was about him.
And that's why he can never truly be a legend.
