Liverpool FC & the League Cup - We've won it 8 times......
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:20:50 pm »
It's safe to say that the name Liverpool is synonymous with the League Cup considering we've won this competition more times than anyone else.
Aston Villa have won it 5 times, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest (who beat us in the '78 final replay) on 4.

Ifyadon'tknowyerhistory we have lifted the trophy in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984,1995,2001 and 2003.

Now that we're in the final again I thought it might be time to take a look back at our illustrious history in this competition which has provided some fantastic
memories over the years.

League Cup Stats: (courtesy of Liverweb)

Total Games 211, Goals Scored 427, Goals Conceded 202 in % 58.29, Wins 123, Draws 48, Lost 40

Ian Rush has scored a record 48 goals in the League Cup. Robbie Fowler scored 29 and King Kenny 27.

I remember the trophy when it was the milk cup.

Have they reverted back to the original trophy now? Looks like Kenny with the current trophy in the Hitachi kit.

Is part of the league cup's lack of mystique due to the fact that the trophy is so small and insignificant looking? These days it is routinely a more exciting tournament than the FA Cup.

I hope that we would never get so arrogant that we would not want to win every competition we are eligible for, and the 'want to win it all' attitude has helped fill our rather ample Trophy Room.

you must be a manure supporter.  Why?  because i only hear people who support the scum refer to it as the mickey mouse cup.  If your not then you don't deserve to support liverpool, because regardless of the cup when you see steven gerrard lift it you can tell instantly its one of the happiest moments of his life.  I've seen many a liverpool captain lift trophies and none of them show as much pride and passion that he does at that moment.
