I have a desktop i7 rig. I want a portable one as well

I've got an i7 Desktop with quite a lot of things in it :) and a i5 Laptop.

They do a job :)

Nice.

Should be able to get a nice i5 or i7 setup if you build it yourself.

I'm drinking right now but if I remember I can throw some build ideas around tomorrow...

Parts I'm running...

Intel i7-2600k
Biostar TP67XE motherboard
XFX 650w XXX Edition PSU
XFX 6950 Double D 2GB GPU
G.Skill 8gb RAM
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD
Kingston 64GB SSDNow V+ Series
ASUS DVD-RW
XSPC Rasa 750 rs240 liquid cooling kit
ASUS VH238H 23" monitor
Saitek Cyborg v5 keyboard
Coolermaster HAF 922 case
R.A.T. 5 mouse
NZXT Sentry 2 Touchscreen Fan Controller
Gentle Typhoon AP-15's x3 fans

Could probably run a very similar setup for about that price to be honest if you build it yourself.  That'll run anything you throw at it.  You could sub the i7 for an i5, use an HDD from an older build for your storage, if you're overclocking I'd say stick with the watercooling but find a closed loop maybe?  Go with an ASRock Fatal1ty Performance if you're not planning on Crossfiring your video cards and save a bit of loot as well.

Intel if you've the coin. Reason: much faster processors. Simple as that, really. If you want it for games, and other things, then i5 2500k or i7 is your best option. Great for overclocking too. If you want to save money, then AMD's are a good option too, but Intel has them trumped.

You only really need an i7 if you're heavily into photo/video editing software.  They cost £50 more for no extra gain otherwise.

If you've got the coin, I'd get a 3570k.  Just got one myself and they are superb gaming chips.

Indeed.  That's why I said i5 as an option as it's a fantastic chip.  I do quite a bit of photo and video editing so I love those cores man.  Intel over AMD for sure, the stats don't lie, just google it.

Really I don't have much money so I thought about getting AMD fx 8120 as a processor , how good is it ..... and what is a good motherboard that can match with it....I don't have that much money for intel so I thought about a cheap/good AMD....Any Support would be appreciated.

AMD have the current speed record for overclocking, so if you've got handy access to liquid hydrogen i'd go for that
STFU and agree with me.

Well again, that's depended on your budget. If you've the money to go Intel, then go Intel. If you want to save money on the CPU and put the extra money towards something else, then put it into the GPU if your main interest for the rig is gaming. The AMD's aren't shoddy even if Intel trumps them, so don't worry about that.

Aye, which was only done on 2 of its 8 cores and would be beaten by a stock i5 at the same price in benches I'd imagine.

If you've not got much money, I wouldn't go for a 8120 as they're quite pricey, just a shade under the i5.  I've still got my Phenom ii x4 955. It sold on eBay last week for £68 but the guy hasn't paid and seems to be a time waster. I'd go for this chip as it's a very decent in all current games.  Get a cheap AM3+ board, stick it in and next year or so you can upgrade to 'Piledriver' if they're any good.

The difference between the 8120 and the 6200 is only like 11 dollars on amazon , so not much difference
The only problem I find with AMD that on amazon their motherboards are so expensive .... if i can find a cheap motherboard for about 100 $ that my processor can fit in then I could possibly pull it off..... I've just seen the Asus M5A88-M Motherboard , is it any good and is it compatible ?
thanks for your help

Take a look at overclockers too Luca.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=43&catid=2040&subid=1444

There are some decent pre-built systems and bundles so you don't have to worry about if they'd fit or not. They ship to almost anywhere too plus a whole system, i.e. a tower + components is shipped for free. I'm due a computer this summer and I've long decided that it'll be from there, the only problem is which.

As I said in my above post my 955 is a brilliant gaming chip and can reach the clock speeds of those 980+975 easily in the tier 3 chart. Quite telling that they beat a £185 AMD chip showing how crappy they are for gaming/price performance.

I really wouldn't get a bulldozer FX chip for gaming. If you want something cheap, go for a second hand phenom ii x4 or an i3 sandybridge.

You might also be interested in getting an APU. They will play most pc games at 720p without a graphics card.

Oh, I need to get my hands on Arma 2 and Day Z. Looks like good craic.

The mod is great but connecting to servers is a right pain in the arse. I can only connect to like 1 in 5 properly without spawning wrong or being sent back to the server list after waiting for half an hour.

Still Arma 2 CO is also very much worth it alone without the mod. Fantastic game.

If you're not going to crossfire, drop spec on the motherboard and use the money to help toward a 64gb SSD.  Other than that, it's a bitchin build imo.

Agree with the SSD for a boot drive. Best upgrade to a PC you can get.  I'd also swap that 6950 for a 7850, since they're around a similar price (In the UK) if you can find a good deal on one, they are simply phenomenal when overclocked and will leave the 6950 for dust.

Also cheers for those games earlier Cim Pim. Will be playing some more tomorrow if you can bear me any longer :)

You seem to be quality at it.

I am really on  a very tight budget and these components just fit into my budget , I agree that the SSD would boost my PC but I'd have to find an alternative for this motherboard , if anybody can give me a good option it will be just fine

Amnesia:The Dark Descent, Psychonauts, LIMBO,.Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, and if you donate more than 8 dollars you also get Bastion.

Donate money, you get all those games for activation on Steam or download.
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

Not essential at all, they just speed everything up you'd be shocked your pc could run that fast.  Maybe put one on your 'to buy list' as they continue to fall in price each month.

I was surprised to see you play that well, was expecting much worse.

I'm sure there's irony in there somewhere  ;D

I can buy it later and it would boost my PC as I would have paid an arm and a leg by then.

Anybody interested in a brand new XFX 6950 2GB Double D??  Have a spare one lying around after changing my mind and deciding I didn't want to crossfire 2 of them.  Never used, still boxed.

PM me.

The mod is great but connecting to servers is a right pain in the arse. I can only connect to like 1 in 5 properly without spawning wrong or being sent back to the server list after waiting for half an hour.

Still Arma 2 CO is also very much worth it alone without the mod. Fantastic game.
Haven't got it just yet, but how does the mod actually work? I read that once you die, your character is gone forever? Also, I've heard that when you quit the game, the game world still runs while you are off it. How does that work? Does your character pitch a tent or something, and you can be killed when you're off? How many players can be in a server at once?
