If anyone plays this online, or would like to without microtransactions I’d be happy to help.

Usually make about 1.5mil per 2 hour session flipping between San Perico and Casino. Happy to split/share, more the merrier.

Starting playing this again from the gamepass. I know it's older than half the primary school children in the country, but it is good fun.

Personally I think GTA 6 (if it exists) should be single focus like RDR2. Flicking between characters loses something along the way I think.

I'm not that bothered whether GTA has single focused character or multiple flicking between characters, what it needs to be is fun to play, GTA4 was a chore to play & that was focused on one single character, although saying that GTA3 was fun to play even though that was one single character. GTA5 became fun to play again even though you flick through the characters.

it won't exist for about another 4 years and when it does there'll be about a 1 hour 'intro' then the rest of the game will entirely be online anyway.

I gave online a go out of boredom once and had no idea what was going on. Just kept fielding texts and phone calls from people (Lester was one) telling me to go buy a certain bit of property that would then unlock a game mode. Trouble is everything they wanted me to buy cost way more money than I had, and there was literally no guidance on what else to do or where money could be made.

I drove around for a little bit, watched a guy with a tank crash into a fire station and run off before I got killed by someone chasing him. After dying a few times to people flying around the city on some sort of hover thing I discovered the mode that stops you killing or being killed and explore a bit more, but without any sort of purpose (other than the repeated messages telling me to spend millions that I didn't have) I couldn't see the point any more and went back to the far more fun experience of rampaging about solo causing mayhem with a minigun.

Lol same experience as i had with the online version, gave up & went back to story mode, now often play director mode, which is fun as you can go into restricted areas[which you have to turn off in the director mode settings] such as the air force base & penitentiary, you can have wanted level disabled, & invincibility on, you can still get shot at by cops but you wont die.

The big issue for me with online is the fractured nature of it. You're in a world with other people, but whenever you want to do something other than roam around in the open world you're going to a different lobby and somehow every other screen you see is a loading screen. I only played it on Xbox and that was just a pain in the arse, because everything also took ages to load. Never bothered with it after a couple of tries. I get that you need those instances for stuff like races and other stuff, but it was just needlessly complicated in my view. You went into a lobby to wait for enough players, then it was another lobby where you got ready and then after you're finished it's loading time again when going back to the open world.

As for GTA IV I think I have already said in this thread, that it was the worst of the whole franchise in my view. I'm not a fan of the multiple protagonists, but at least the game went back to what it always was: an over the top open world game. GTA IV was just too depressing. The only thing I really remember not being about how shite everything is was the comedy stuff on TV with Ricky Gervais. Everything else was just depressing. That's just not what GTA is for me. It's characters like that lawyer guy in Vice City and not a protagonist who dresses like a guy from 80s Russia no matter what  you buy and who's basically living in an apartment where you can almost smell all the cockroach and rat piss...

Split the difference, Ballad of Gay Tony is still the best GTA experience overall, despite being shorter DLC.

I'm so bored of Los Santos

This is why, whilst I was tempted to have another go on the single player a few months back, I’ve held off until the proper next gen version drops. It’ll have been long enough since I last played it that although I’ll probably remember chunks of it broadly it should still feel fresh again.

For anyone interested:

A modder has added AMD's new FSR resolution scaling tech to GTA 5.  Works on both Nvidia and AMD cards.  I've been doing some testing with it and can stay above 60fps with the mod's ultra quality setting and upscaled to 4K with a 5700xt using DSR.  I'm pretty impressed with the picture/performance combination, so thought that I'd share it here.  Dead easy to install and needs msaa in the in-game settings for it to work, which I don't think is mentioned on the download page. Anyhow....

Cheers, I saw that but have Nvidia and wasn't sure.

But it replaces the game's own frame scaler...seems marvellous. Always found it a bit odd GTAV could chug on Ultra everything whereas I have RDR2 flying along.

It's the engine, it's DLSS... So setting this is great. Can already see the difference, and it's smoother for sure. Will tinker more after work.

On a pretty vanilla build of GTAV for a moment. The World of Variety bloke, Cass, has a Patreon where he's doing early builds of the new World of Variety, and different vehicle handling (I love that, heavier vehicles). He's working on a graphics mod too, he's a talented bloke. Tried a few graphics mods, but it ain't like the base game is ugly.

Basically, at this point, I'm replaying the story with the new, heavier vehicle handling, and World of Variety adds more well, variety... I want a world I can get lost in.

RDR2 with DLSS is almost unbelievable. So this wee mod is a step in the right direction

Settings-wise, I feel that the highest res you can manage with 4xmsaa and the ultra setting (I think .0875) to he best. I also use a bit of the radeon sharpening filter, so the nvidia equivalent, assuming there is one, would probably be a good addition. Regarding Red Dead, yeah, dlss looks boss from what I've seen. Unfortunately I don't have access to that with my card, so I'm hoping that the modder can implement this mod for that too. It's the same engine and he's getting a lot of requests for it, so fingers crossed. Will have to have a look at the world of variety mod as I've been away from GTA5 for a while, so haven't heard of it.

Exactly what I'm using even down to the MSAA level - got a 3080 and was shocked at GTAV freaking out a bit before these tweaks. Curved 1440p monitor with Nvidia's DSR in 4k, looks mint now. Have a little sharpening set manually too - I do this in RDR2 also, because RockStar always skimp on NPC face textures.

AMD's version is going OpenSource though isn't it - really excited for FidelityFX and DLSS. I think they're bang-for-your-buck improvements for sure

Seems a few successful mods have moved over to the Patreon model. So I put his newest stuff in my Google Drive, you install via OpenIV (just the "Install Mod Package" automatic option, easy as pie) - you need a few prerequisites all explained like Simple Trainer

Rolls a few mods into one - Gangs of Los Santos, assets from multi, etc.

Patreon things from him in my drive here ("to be named" is his new graphics tweak - removes vignetting and fog)

Basically I want mods that add to the open world. I love the World of Variety option that adds cars from GTA IV...

Thanks so much for this mate, really appreciate it.  Flat out the next couple of days, but will deffo be raiding your Google Drive early next week.   :thumbup

I'm not sure I understand your question about AMD's version going open source though(?) What you have in GTA5 now is AMD's version (to the best of my knowledge) and not a modder's equivalent/approximation.  You do understand that?  What the guy has done is injected AMD's actual code into the game.
I believe that AMD said that it should take devs a couple of hours to implement on titles (current or otherwise), so I think that it's only a matter of time before we see it available as a drag and drop for pretty much anything.  DLSS by contrast, as impressive as it is, has only become available in a few dozen titles in three years and is reliant on a 30 series Nvidia card, so I see FSR as a massive win for gamers in general.  Would love to see it on HZD or Assassin's Creed.

I got it

It's okay. But regretting it a bit. For all the effort they've put into the clouds and lighting, the character models are still two, three generations ago and just ... jarring against the world

It also runs at lower FPS than RDR2 does with my RTX3080

Controls are a bit better though not as considered as GTAV (there's no Euphoria physics)

Everything else the same though the soundtracks are butchered

If you really want to replay these games it's good enough

But yeah I'm... close to asking a refund. It's clear to me why they didn't reveal much ahead of release. Scummy.

Edit: and I've asked for a refund. I want GTA6. I own the originals on Steam and I mod anyway

As i've already said, i hated GTA IV, the missions were mostly a chore to play, biggest annoyance was when approaching the start of a mission you always got a call from someone wanting to hang out, which you felt compelled to do, at least hanging out is an optional extra in GTA V. GTA V is fun to play, which GTA IV is missing, & that's in spite of Trevor being one of the most unlikeable characters ever in a game.

As i said on the other thread, i still have the physical copies of GTA III & GTA San Andreas, windows version, although they won't work on my laptop due to the OS.

OK, that's me convinced. I won't bother.

The gym missions and getting fat again were a pain in the arse anyway.

one miserable game that too.
Yep. In hindsight, it's the reason why I think V is a massive step up from IV. Just the setting of Los Santos alone. I liked Niko as a protagonist, and I preferred the driving physics, but other than that, V is just a superior game in every single way. Blew me away with how they even achieved it on what is now two generations old hardware.

As for the recent remasters, those games haven't aged well to begin with, so remastering them wasn't going to improve them much, but fuck me, it seems like they've made a right hash of even doing that, which is very unusual for a developer like Rockstar. Surely they must have outsourced those to another developer and slapped their name on them?
