I think it was a mistake too. This happened earlier in the season with Carroll too. Kuyt should have taken it because he's our best penalty taker after Gerrard and he too needs a confidence boost. Suarez does not need penalties.

Who cares? The tie was over as a contest and Suarez deserved a goal for his performance and to keep him in goalscoring form ahead of Wembley, virtually the whole ground wanted Suarez to score and cheered when Kenny insisted he take it.

It's not a tragedy but a small mistake. Suarez has not been a great penalty taker for us and if he hadn't scored later the missed penalty would have backfired. Anyway, let's leave the debate for other threads and focus on Carra's ridiculing of the streaker.

Why would it have backfired? He missed one earlier in the season and scored about 6 minutes later lol.

Said after the game in a light hearted way that it was a bad decision.

Also said that he thought it would do Luis some good to get goal in front of the Kop and it was only because we'd already scored 5.
Said if we wasn't that far in front either Derek or Adams would of taken it.

Fuck all shameful in that.

It wasn't about who takes better penalties though was it? Also Kenny is the manager, if he gives an order it should be accepted, nothing shameful in it at all.

If you think it was shameful asking Suarez to take a pen in a game we are well ahead in, then I dread to think how you would react if something really bad happened.

We were ahead, had been through a shitty time, had been under criticism and kenny wanted to show a bit of solidarity with one of his players. f he missed it wouldn't have lost us the game, and if he had scored it would have given him a huge lift.

How anyone can criticise the decision in those circumstances I really don't understand, it's not as if we were 3 down and he did it is it?

Some people seem to take a delight in finding things to moan and criticise

Suarez has too, but he scored a fair few at Ajax. Nothing shameful about it at all.

But then he did take a chance to score away from Adam, so I see where Fordy's coming from.

They've both missed penos as well this season so not shameful at all especially when we're 5-1 up.

Sorry, but that's bull. I was watching the game on the couch in my living room and I got up to applaud Kenny for that gesture. Never mind that we were so much ahead that scored or not the penalty would not have changed anything. The gesture shows that Kenny has faith in Suarez. We will reap the benefits of that in the games to come, not in an already won match.

I've seen nothing to indicate Adam is a better pen taker. Suarez was an excellent pen taker at Ajax and for Uruguay. It's just a confidence issue I think. He's used to scoring bag loads of goals and he really hasn't been doing it here, even though he's been marvelous regardless.
