To quote the legendary Bob Dylan - The times they are A-changin'.
There are other threads in similiar vein, other threads and posts better put and written than I could ever imagine. But it's nearly 1am. I'm in my garden robbing my neighbours wireless connection, sipping a cold beer and looking out for the occasional shooting star. Lifes good, lifes great.
You see, the thing is, 8 months ago it was a completely different story. Had I been in the same spot now, I would be running in from the rain hoping for anything better. The grey clouds would be blocking the night sky and I'd be shivering like hell.
They say a year is a long time in football. Try a little less than that.
I won't bring the past up. This is a positive thread, the mere thought of ex-associatates with our great club make me want to vomit. But to move on to the future you have to look into the past. To move on to something greater you need to understand how bad it once was. This club, one of the finest to ever be involved in the game, was on the verge of being extinct. Nothing. We would of been no more. So for us to be able to be positive at any point down the line is a miracle. To be able to consider a title challenge next year is maybe a little premature.
But to be able to moan at the fact that we haven't spent 100 million on Europe's finest is nothing short of complete stupidity. We will buy players. Will we assemble a good squad. We have class youngsters, we have everything behind the scences to compete. It may not happen overnight, but we will get there. Trust the people at our club, they are in our corner. But please don't be like a spoilt kid at Christmas moaning they didn't get every present they asked for. Don't be disrespectful to the people who run us now. Please don't give anyone else in the country and beyond more bullets to fire at us.
I'm not a pessimistic. Nor am I living in cloud cuckoo land. But I appreciate that at the minute we have everything set up to go on in years to come to be at the top of our perch again. Kenny Dalglish, King Kenny Dalgish, will make sure of it. John Henry, Tom Werner will make sure of it. Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Lucas Leiva will make sure of it. I hope, and I fully expect, our fans from Anfield road all the way to the far edges of the world to make sure of it. We are one huge family, one massive unit who not that long ago we're given last rites. As of now, the Liverbird has started to fly again and no mountain in the entire world is too big for her.
