Sometimes JLA is a pain, but usually only due to insufficient resources at passport control when you return, although the last flight I had (last week from Amsterdam), 3 aircraft arrived at the same time and it did take around 25 minutes to get through. Upside (as someone else has mentioned) is that my hold luggage was ready for me, quick walk to car park on off on my way home. Things have definitely improved.
Manchester? I've flown through there dozens of times and on the odd occasion, things have obviously gone horribly wrong (like at T1 when the snakey system they have before security was packed and the queue continued into the main terminal and snaked it's entire length, twice! Other time I've been the only person in site, in the whole of the security check system (It thought the airport had closed and nobody had told me!). My record is 7 minutes flat from arriving at the terminal door to ordering a beer in the departure lounge at Manchester T1. T3 is usually shit though (although, again, improving, flew out of there Monday heading for Glasgow with no hassle at all).
Worse every delay at security for me,Philadelphia, 2 hours to get through (missing my transfer flight) but this was only a few months after 9.11 so understandable.
