5 European Cups.

Oh yeah. Forgot we'd only won 5 of those.

This.

I loved Xabi as much, if not more, than Torres. But I respected the dignified manner in which he left, and treated the club after his departure.

And we've missed Xabi more than we'll ever miss Torres.

PT and others on twitter saying Nando was miss quoted, but i watched it and saying "its the target of every footballer to play in one of the top clubs in the world and i can do that now" <-- what he actually said.
Isnt a lot worse then
"And now i can finally do that"

Both suggest we'r a "small club"

I got a thread locked before but we have to face facts: we are essentially a second tier club or atleast in the mezzanine between 1st and 2nd. Utd., Chelsea, Real, Barca, Inter, AC: these are the world's biggest clubs. I reckon we're on par with Juventus.

And I'm happy enough, with the blessing of this life, to appreciate that we're in this position, something to look forward to. Let's build, and just appreciate!
“I want to build a team that's invincible, so that they have to send a team from bloody Mars to beat us!” “For a player to be good enough to play for Liverpool, he must be prepared to run through a brick wall for me then come out fighting on the other side."

I mean mostly in terms of prestige for attracting players, our ability to challenge for honours and brand recognition around the world. We can't attract the world's best players, we're nowhere near challenging for the league title; we've actually regressed and now Torres is gone, our brand recognition will fall off considerably I reckon.

Normally on the official site when they confirm an outgoing transfer there is a little line saying the player 'leaves with the best wishes of LFC' and a thank you for the service.

Tonight it merely reads:

"Liverpool Football Club can confirm Fernando Torres is now a Chelsea player.

New record signing Andy Carroll will now wear the No.9 shirt."

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/

Good point. Telling that.
I still cant believe we let him go there. Bad move that. Bad move.

Is he eligable(sp?)?

Yes, you're not allowed to stop a player playing in a particular match after you've sold him.  It constitutes 3rd party influence.

My God i used to adore him and be proud having one of the best strikers in my club.I lost some of the respect by him picking Chelsea but today i lost every single bit of respect and admiration about him after reading what he said.2 thing for you cunto: 1)You didn't even thank all those Liverpool fans who stood by you when you sulked, under performed and when you were injured for long time.We lost count how many times Liverpool fans sang your name in every game.We thought the respect and love was mutual.
2)I know you don't give a shit but just think how many kids' dreams are shattered and cried about your leaving.
Shame on you really as we honestly didn't believe such kind of behaviour will come from your part.

I'm as furious as everyone but lets be honest about what he actually said.

He didn't say I wanted to play for a big club and now I can. He said he wanted to play at "one of the top level clubs in the world, and I can do it now"- obviously he's referring to playing at a team which is doing well, challenging for the title, in the CL etc. Plus he didn't look like he said it in a snidy way..

Exactly. Just saying that he should be playing for a club that is fighting for top spot, just said in the wrong way.

I can't see him playing sunday. chelsea will be afraid of our lads trying to empty him. i've a feeling they'll parade him to the fans before the game though just to wind us up.

Right, that's me done with Torres. File next to McManaman and Owen next to Judas

He was a great player but having seen every Liverpool game he has played, I'm sure that deadly burst of pace has gone that made him extra special when played up front on his own. I said before he handed his transfer request in, we'd seen his best days.

Nevermind the comparison with how Garcia left, here's what Ryan Babel had to say.

Read from the bottom up.

That's from a lad who has had a fair few moronic 'fans' slaughtering him on there. He takes two minutes to do that. The lad who had all the adoration in the world, well, he couldn't even keep his mouth shut to disguise his forked tongue.

I felt quite sad reading what Ryan had to say on Twitter earlier.  Just a normal nice guy who just didn't work out here, and was really humble after his departure.

It's worth remembering we made him the player he is.

He had ability and a decent record when he came to us but no one was talking about him as one of the top 3 or 4 players in the world.
LFC and Rafa made him a pure penalty box striker and brought the best out from him in addition to lording him wherever he went.

Doesn't mean he has to stay forever but to leave in the way he has - it speaks to a very low character

Nando could learn a thing or two from his fellow countrymen who have left the club. They had and still do have respect for the club and the fans. And I thought he 'got us'. Hope he's Chelsea's new Shevchenko.
