Nothing beats the feeling of slowly starting a new Bethesda game.
I'll savour every second of it. The joy of possibilities.

They are outstanding.

I don't like the character looks that much though. In Oblivion; after initially being a Breton; I rolled a cute female High Elf (with red eyes). I don't think there will be any cute looking characters in Skyrim though (judging from the screenshots).
Would love the 19th more and more trophies; but would love even more to see a fan owned LFC.

Clearly a souped up version of the Oblivion engine, as a lot of people have been moaning about - those minimum specs really aren't that different to Oblivion's. There you go Zizou from a page pack - that should run ok on your computer, will probably still at least nearly as nice as a console if you've got a reasonable amount above those minimums, and the modding community for this series really does make the PC one vastly superior.

Where is everybody buying their copy from and what's the cheapest you've seen it??  Haven't really looked around at store websites myself, but found a company selling preorders for 29 quid shipped on ebay for the PC version (which I need).  I know some won't touch game sales on ebay, but I've personally never been burned with any transaction out of hundreds...

Ordered mine from Amazon, currently priced at £27.89 and usually always get them day of release and probably one of the most reliable sites anyway. Not bothered if it's the cheapest or not as a quid here or there isn't going to make a difference to anyone.

Same, and same exact reasoning. Amazon just give you what you pay for, within a reasonable time, every time. I fucking love Amazon.

I'm actually really looking forward to playing it from scratch - I get awfully tempted to cheat/look for spoilers, this way I'll  be playing it 'clean' like I did with Witcher 2, which I ultimately enjoyed immensely.

Quick question. Anyone picking this up who never really plays or played RPG's before? And if so, will I be lost completely if I fall into that category!?

They've made it pretty accessible. In some ways, while being deeper than pretty much any other RPG, it should also (now) be easier to get into to - the idea of the levelling system is you 'learn by doing'. IE, you want to try cast a spell? Do it. Try picking a lock? Go for it. You'll specialise in whatever you end up doing most, if that makes sense. There aren't even really any stats for you to worry about anymore - just a health bar, magic bar and stamina bar that you increase with each level up, and you level up by increasing skills, which you do by using them.

It's a term I tend to hate, but this one should be extremely 'pick up and play'. It's a first-person perspective as well (as you've probably discovered) so the controls should be pretty familiar and inutuitive.

I picked up Oblivion (the last Elder Scrolls game) despite never paying anything like it before if that helps. After playing it a bit I got used to everything and it wasn't really hard to get into. I was never really 'lost'. I don't think you'll have any trouble to be honest.

Exactly the same here. Ended up being one of my favourite games ever. Sunk over 300 hours into it, across two saves.

You guys should check out Morrowind if you've got PCs. Much worse combat system but significantly better game all round, I reckon. More imaginative and less hand-holding anyway.

Check out the mod-link I posted earlier in the thread if you've got a decentish PC, then you can really make it shine.

I have to say that that's a reason why I don't like games like Baldur's Gate or why I haven't dared buying Dragon Age 2. I don't like those kind of games, where character-development becomes a science (or you have a whole party to command). When I'm playing an RPG I want to immerse myself the world of the game and experience all those little stories in it, writing some of them myself (like running through the woods and finding a huge Orc that would kill me with one blow, so I have to turn around and run for my life). I can't be arsed looking at who is the most suitable to be using a bow or who should be working as the "tank".

So it looks like you can join either the Stormcloaks or the Imperial Legion which SHOULD have an impact on the story and lead to 2 possible end results? Which faction will people be joining? For my first character who is a Nord I think it's only right that I join the Stormcloaks. Going to have to learn a bit more about each faction though and hopefully it isn't simply a good/evil choice.

Glad the Legion returns as a joinable faction though like in Morrowind. The armour looks boss. For those who haven't seen it...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/47857688@N08/6286608522/in/photostream/lightbox/

and the Stormcloak armour which has a sort of highlander feel to it...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/47857688@N08/6286609428/in/photostream/

Also I only just heard the Skyrim theme now and it sounds a heck of a lot like Morrowinds (which is awesome). Nice little touch.

I read that it's the Stormcloaks and the Battleborn that are the ones you have to choose between.

must agree, alot of the game is down to factions side quests, good story lines with the dark brotherhood and the thieves guild. and alot of good shit to get from some of the quests.

The first half an hour leaked on YouTube and the like yesterday, but it was being taken down almost immediately..

I couldn't help but watch about a minute of it, and man does it look good. The voice acting in particular is a million miles ahead of the usual wooden Elder Scrolls style. I stopped myself watching any more, but my hype-o-meter just broke.

I don't know but I saw somewhere how you get initiated and it seems pretty good compared to simply killing a randomer in the last one.

I've heard that in order to get initiated you have to do this questline dealing with an orphanage and some badly treated kids. I can only assume you "take care" of the person in charge which attracts the attention of the DB. Think I read it in a games magazine where the journo got to play the game for a bit.

Sounds better than just killing some random homeless person and getting to join the infamous assassins guild like that.
