As a defender, he has weak points but he is good at defending when pressing the ball, especially high up in midfield. He can make a tackle up there or, if up high enough can often make a decent recovery with his pace and get back for a challenge to win the ball back. When asked to stand off the ball until its 20 yards away from our goal, he doesn't make the best decisions and his positions are often wrong. We need to play to his natural attributes - his pace and ability on the ball, he is very strong with the ball and if he has space to recover when dispossesed, he is effective at winning the ball back. Its, again, a matter of tactics designed to basically allow Carragher and Skrtel (two players with ZERO pace) the ability to play positionally because they have no hope in hell of winning the ball back if we lose it above the halfway line.
