Liverpool Graffiti
« on: August 19, 2009, 12:50:39 pm »
Anyone got any particular favourites? I was just browsing jaygraham's thread about the pies and didnt want to hijack, so posted this here.

www.liverpoolcultureblog.co.uk/2009/04/liverpool-graffiti-delta-fuck-off-the-pies-the-pies/

One of my favourite pieces of Liverpool graffiti is the 'Cockneys Die' viewed from the train just on the way out of Lime Street. I've worked all round this country and the amount of people who knew that graffiti I lost count!

On the (ahem) 'other side' of the Mersey the sig 'Cloud 9' always used to appear all over the place, early 70's, think they were some sort of strange mod skin'ead crew from lower beb.

The cockneys die was legendary, wasn't it, and repeated on the bridge over the M62 near the rocket " cockneys must die " ? i think

My all time favourite though was on the substation near british leyland in speke / hunts cross:

"Liverpool Champions yet again"

was a vintage piece. on a substation, on Wood end avenue i think? between Speke and Hunt Cross. I always vowed I'd 'restore it " when we won the league again.
It would be worth getting arrested.

and this one

My most remembered graffiti was in Stanley Park, near the gap turning onto Anfield Road which said 'All Away Fans Die'.........tickled me everytime we saw it.

Please don't post back about fans dying, etc.......... don't mean it like that.

An artistic mate of mine does professional & paid stuff like this from time to time, this is outside the C.U.C. building by the Cains brewery in town where I used to work.

Love the quote.

Don't know if you'd really call if graffiti but it's what came to my head when I saw the thread title.

Always wondered what "the pies" graffiti was all about. Remember it being across a few bridges, not just the one on the M57.

There's a boss caricature of the Beatles on Duke St, and of course Banky's at the top. The boards outside the disused church on Prinny Ave have some good stuff on them from time to time, too.

There's a nice JFT 96 on that board .

Anyone remember the BluenoseB on the bridge across (not sure if Rice lane or County Road), but I remember it as a kid as we drove home through Walton towards switch island. Never did get it - was it a band - was someone disturbed before they could finish the B.... (Bastards?).
As a kid, weren't the square crash barriers just so much better?

When you come into Liverpool on the mainline from Runcorn there's grafitti on the railway bridge wall on the right hand side near Speke that says

THE FAMOUS ROAD END KILL ALL AWAY FANS...EASY
LFC
GRFC

It's been there since the late seventies and is still clearly visible when the train isn't going too fast.

That is appearing more and more around the outskirts of town, there was one by the Rocket 'Your time is now Pies' - another thread explains that they're a local band.

Always remember that there used to be grafitti on the bridge over Childwall Valley Road which lead into Belle Vale saying "EFC FA Cup 95", that was until 2001, when someone went over it with "LFC Treble Winners 2001".

Sprayed on Sayers shutters in Williamson Square "GREGGS IS WELL BETTER"

Sprayed next to a garage off Scottie Road "WE'VE HAD YOUR SPRAYPAINT OFF"

And the best one, at the bottom of my mates street by Walton bizzie station "MY MA'S A FAT SLAG WHO BLAMES ME FOR EVERYTHING"

You can never under estimate the humour and whitisisms of some of the grafitti in this city.

I always laugh when I walk past this one, which is on the side of the Scandanavian Hotel, top of Duke Street.

I can only think that the original piece was some sort of art project, but then someones crossed out the words and added their own.

The funny thing is, you have to climb over a small fence to get at it. I can just imagine that some smart arse who has walked past it numerous times, coming home from the pub one night, got his pen out and added his own touch.

I don't know why, but it just tickles me, every time I see it.
So childish, yet so funny.

Three oldies that resonate with me even today,

Knowsley Village, ''Ernie smokes his mams bacon flaps''
Just off North John Street (in very small letters) ''Pete Burns is a prick''

Both subtle gems.
