Two strong defences, one boasting the great Alan Hansen but the other marginally stronger across all three positions, but its very debateable so thats another tie.

Bill Hicks 1 - 0 Sarge

Midfield next.

Midfield was easier, Sarge's fantastic midfield scores a big one point (2 goal) win over Bill and takes a 2-1 lead.

Bill Hicks 1 - 2 Sarge

Attack next.

Bill's awseome attack, one of the best in the thread pulls one back.

Bill Hicks 2 - 2 Sarge

Its all down to the subs and the balance of the side now. Extra time being played.

A slightly stronger bench grabs Bill a late goal but can he hang on for the win as it goes to the Balance of the side or will it all be decided on penalties?

Bill Hicks 3 - 2 Sarge

Can't seperate the two sides in terms of balance but I'm going to give it to Bill for his ingenious flexibility which would make the side highly adaptable.

Final Score Bill Hicks 4 - 2 Sarge

Ask me on another day and I'll probably change my mind. Off to vote now.... ;)

Enjoyed that - the winner for me is Shanks1965. Him and Sarge in the final.
Very kind of you mate, thanks very much for the vote of confidence in the Dads Army eleven.

If I'd done it a month ago you'd have lost in the first round young man... but the research for this lot has broadened my horizons a little.

Sad to see the apathy on the main boards relating to the thread but whatever - it's been a privilege being involved in this.

I've noticed that.  I had a funny feeling that it would get lost with a lot of posters in the LFC Forum.

Well done BHAS. Hard luck Sarge.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

OK, stickied on 1534 views.

See how it goes. I noticed it on page 2 earlier.

We've had Chelsea on Sunday, Keane yesterday and then Everton tomorrow. After that all that hoo-hah is over off it might get a bit more attention

Out of interest, how many did you have in your team? It seems to suffer the same problem of 'newishism' but just out of interest have a look.

http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=237523.0

I had 6, would have been 7 if Phil hadn't stolen Albert Stubbins just before my last pick and then put him on the bench.

Lawler, Byrne, Yeats, Fairclough, Owen, Liddell

Average should only be 3.something.

;)

;D

Yeah but I had hat trick hero Jack Balmer, in hindsight I should have gone or a 4-3-1-2

Maybe. I just wanted Albert up front with Billy on the wing. If you read about whet those two were like theye were a pretty awesome combination. The story of the goal Stubbins scored on a frozen pitch is fantastic. Goes something like this.

Liddell crossed the ball low and hard from the left wing with the ball just a couple of feet off the deck. No one managed to get on the end of it but Stubbins said to Liddell if you do that again I'll score. So minutes later he did. A low hard cross with the ball inches off the ground. On a frozen pitch with sharp edges of hard soil Albert dived full length and headed it into the net. He got up scratched and cut to pieces.

A L B - E R T -  Albert Stubbins is the one for me.
