Stolen shamelessly. What it is is a draft system - similar to what they have in sports like Grid Iron or Basketball. The first person to pick can pick any player in Liverpool FC history who played from the formation of the Club to now. The second do the same, bar the player picked by the first person and so on. You have to have an idea of what formation you are going to play and how the players you have picked fit into that formation - but having said that I assume there will be a mad scramble over the likes of the Diao
etc, and then finding a way to build a squad around those types of players. Managers are also draftable.
There are certain rules over the numbers of players you can pick in certain positions. The rules are as set out below:
Roster:
11 Starters, 6 Subs, 1 Manager
Starters:
Goal Keeper - One only
Strikers - Min 1, Max 3
Midfielders - Min 4, Max 6
Defenders - Min 3, Max 4
Bench:
1 GK, 1 M, 1 ST, 1 D, and 2 discretionary Spots
Eligibility:
All players must have played for Liverpool FC.
All teams must feature 5 players whose careers STARTED before 1994 (so we can at least get some historical knowledge out of this draft)
The distinction between a striker and a midfielder is the standard one - so Gerrard and someone like Babel are counted as mids, even if they score lots of goals. Players like Rush, Keane, Hunt or Aldo for example are counted as strikers. Attacking wingers are counted as midfielders.
As I said, you have to have an eye on your formation - so you may have a box-to-box midfielder along the lines of a Steven Gerrard or Whelan, and a holding mid like a Mascherano or Didi. In other words its no good picking Gerrard in midfield and then putting 4 other 'flair' midfielders in there as well - as they will all play like Stevie and not have a defensive element to their game.
You can play a standard 4 4 2 or a 4 5 1 or whatever you want to do. Entirely up to you.
Draft order is decided by entrants selecting a number between one and a hundred - the person closest to that number goes first, the person second closest goes second and so on. In every alternate round the draft order is flipped, so that the person who went first in round one goes last in round two, but first again in round three and so on.
When you are 'On The Clock' (OTC) that means that it is your time to draft - you have five hours in which to do so or the person next in line can have a pick - if you have missed your go and someone has jumped ahead of you because you were tardy, you are allowed to have your pick when you can.
The time rule ONLY applies during the day, Liverpool time - overnight the draft can continue, but if someone doesn't pick because their five hours ends at 3 am or whatever, the next person in line has to wait until a decent time in the day for that previous person to have a selection.
Draft order for the first round is:
I'll PM you when you have entered to pick a number between 1 and a 100 and post it on this thread. I'll put the order up once the competition has closed in around 15 hours or so. The maximum I'll allow is 12, meaning a few slots are available. 11 including me.
There will be a separate thread where you can put your picks up once made, building your team as you draft and this other thread will be used for discussion of the draft as well, otherwise things can get a little messy. This thread here will contain the draft order, your numbers between one and a hundred, and your picks as you make them.
When you make your picks it would be good if you could give reasons why you chose the player you did, maybe a little spiel on the merits of the player, just to educate anyone else who doesn't know who the player is or why he was so good.
The hours of 1am and 8am do not count but they can be used as its sleepy time for most of us.Enjoy.
