Hate the dentist. Owe them about 300 quid for work done about 10 years ago. Need work done now but can't go back cuz of the outstanding bill. Robbing fucks. Wish I looked after my teeth when I was younger. Reckon to fix my mouth properly would be at least 3 grand

Weird the way this thread popped up! Was contemplating getting my Wisdom tooth removed one on the left side is through on the right its half way through and the last week has been killing me that much been literally overdosing on paracetomol hoping the pains going to go away.

Was thinking of ringing the dentist to book myself in to have it out but after looking at wisdom tooth extraction videos on youtube decided to hang on a little longer see if it sorts itself out but getting unbearable at times now and losing quite abit of sleep over it.

I had my wisdom tooth removed about 2-3 weeks ago, not a pleasant experience. The bugger was impacted and its roots came together in a sort to make it a one big mega root. The gum surrounding it had abscess and that didn't help either, what normally is 15-20 minute procedure took about an hour and it felt if someone was trying to pull my jaw apart. Good news, the healing was pretty smooth, no dry socket or anything.

Bad news, the x-ray showed that other three will also have to come out sooner or later.

I've had them out. Lying bitch of a dentist said it will be sore, but not as sore as people make it out to be.
Wee bit of anesthetic, some pliers, lots of crunching, cotton wool balls soaked with blood, and the worst pain I've ever had in my life.
I've broken bones, had very deep cuts requiring 30 stitches, but getting wisdom teeth out was the worst.
You should get it over and done with though. The pain will just keep coming back otherwise

Wow thats puts me off even more! Seen lots of vids online mostly american where people are really high on the anaestetic the dentist gives you..
I take it UK dentist's dont use the same kind? One vid didnt look as bad as yours sounded with it just wiggling the tooth until it came loose while a little suction tool kept the blood away.

Any idea on what age it should come through by? Im 21 now but im sure last year when i had problems the dentist said it was the right time for it to be coming through but if a year later i still have problems i should be looking at getting it out. Not had problems with my top 2 and the left one seems to be fine now just dreading the thought of getting the last one out now with all these bad dentist storie's..

Any idea on the price of a wisdom tooth coming out aswell? Not been the dentist much and when i have never had to pay due to being a student etc so was thinking about the price today with hearing dental care is quite expensive.

I'd say go with an NHS dentist. I go to one called Atlantic which is on Argyle Street in town and it's sound. Got to go there next week to get a filling, I've had fillings there before and had to get a wisdom tooth out last year. I didn't go to the dentist for years cos I was shit scared, but then decided to sort it out cos my wisdom tooth was rotting away and it was killing me. It would cost £47 to get a tooth taken out with NHS dentist, but that would cover the cost of any fillings you needed as well, plus the initial check and cleaning etc. If you needed other stuff done like dentures it would cost £204.

Also - I've had 2 wisdom teeth out and it didn't really hurt at all. It was uncomfortable but not painful. I know that some people can have complications and I was probably lucky that both mine went smoothly, it was fine though.

No idea how much it costs. I generally only go when I'm on the dole as its expensive as fuck.

Think I was about 20-22 when I got mine out. Didn't really feel much pain during it obviously with the anesthetic but within about half an hour the pain started and didn't go away for about 3 days. Couldn't eat solids, could hardly speak, and no matter what pain killers I took the pain was still unbearable.
Could just be my bad experience. Doubt everyone's would be the same

When I was 11 i had to have a fake cap on one of my front teeth fitted as I fell over in the playground,  12 years later my son knocks it out and I look like homeless person. No pain but dentist isn't open till Tuesday now.

About 18-25 for your wisdom teeth. They can cause problems whilst they erupt because they inflame the surrounding gums, but once through they may settle down. If you are having problems with pain and the gum area surrounding the tooth looks red and inflamed, try something like Corsodyl mouthwash or gel or, the RAWK favourite, Bonjella. Oil of cloves is meant to work for those who want a natural remedy, otherwise rinsing the area with soluble paracetamol or asprin may also give relief.

I used to pal, seriously. It's been said before in various places, so long as you get the right dentist who isn't a butcher, that makes it so much better. When I was a kid, the worst thing for me was the actual dentist himself. Horrible and patronising and totally put me off going for years. Got to a point when I needed a tooth out that something had to be done. Went to the emergency dentist and the recommended me to a place near Ormskirk to get sedated.

Since then had a root canal and a crown and filling all without sedation. All done with the needle to numb my mouth but had no problems with it at all. Had them whitened too and mates call me "Hollywood"!

When I was about 15 and had a check up due, I ripped it up before my mum got to see it and make the appointment.  ;D

Just back and had a very pleasant surprise, new Dentist has joined the practice and she is a looker, she also fixed my tooth so no need for a new one, although she did recommend getting it replaced within the next couple of years.
well that didn't last long, broke again.Did some on line research though, the Dentist that I "was" using can do one,€2000 indeed, found out that you can get one for around €600 so booked an appointment with another Dentist to see what he/she says.

A filling came out of one of my back teeth and half of the tooth has now broken, and is currently hurting quite a bit. However, I cannot afford to go to the dentist to get it sorted - would rather not have it out as a few missing already, so would like a cap or something, however far too expensive.

Why can't it be like any other healthcare - i.e. free for all on NHS. If I was out of work it would be free, however because I work and pay almost £1k per month in tax I have to pay.

It's not an emergency so a crown on the NHS will be £204 or whatever it is these days, and that'll be a gold one because you can't have tooth coloured crowns on the NHS unless they are on front teeth.

A private dentist will probably charge anything from £400 to £1000 for a molar crown depending on what it's made of and where in the country you are.

One is doing it in the dentists which I have no idea about, the other is done taking an impression of your teeth. The mould which is made is like a gum shield is then worn over night with the whitening inside of it. Did mine about 18 months ago, certainly noticed a difference. Strange at first wearing at night but soon got used to it, did that for 2 weeks. I think it was about £250 but worth doing.

Mostly. Tooth coloured crowns are expensive. Amalgam (metal) fillings are also the only ones offered on the NHS again unless it's on a front tooth and a visible surface, in which case you can get the composite tooth coloured material.

going relatively okay with braces. Teeth was an aboslute mess before hand, baby teeth and normal teeth all crammed and looked like a sharks mouth. Had to have 6 teeth at once because there was so many of the fuckers. Still, teeth look better now with braces. Straightening up now on both top and bottom. However, there is one tooth that is now stick out at the back of my bottom jaw. Sitting there by itself while all my other teeth are in perfect unison. I just wanna pull the fecker out.
My Grammar is shit. I no it and you no it.
They're Stoke. They throw sticks at aeroplanes there

just back from the "new" dentist. Quoted 1700€ for an "implant"  1300€ for a bridge and for a denture it was free.Guess which option...

Implants are £2500 over here so 1700 Euro is very cheap (but admittedly still extremely expensive!).
