So a beta now means release around holidays 2013?

more likely 2012, WoW's closed beta lasted about 7 months, then stress tests/open beta, so was about 9 months before release.

What did you guys think about the fact they're allowing people to choose to use gold or real money to purchase items from one another on the Auction House?

Looks like they've gone for the 'always online' DRM. Unlucky for those with poor internet connections

People sell items on eBay for games all the time, Blizzard may as well get a slice.

Didn't know this was an option. Still wouldn't use it though. I make enough gold doing other stuff anyway.

I guess if you do it on the side without Blizzard getting some of the profits it's illegal (according to the their Terms and Cond) since my account got hacked and suspended cause whomever was doing it was selling my stuff for $$.

Can someone clear something up for me.  Will the real money auction house be avoidable for those not wanting to spend a tenner or whatever on a blue shiny sword?  Would be great if I found something and sold it for a nicker but I don't want to be spending money on essentials in the game.  I hope it's only for player found things and not stuff by Blizzard, eg minerals.  Cosmetic crap like TF2 hats would be fine.

Of the 100,000 new beta spots released last week, i'm still pissed I wasn't one of them, fuckers. It could be released in the summer like Starcraft 2 was. I think Blizzard is trying to destroy people's desire to go outdoors, their name fits.

Somewhat similar. Top-down mostly single player RPG dungeon grinder. It is a fantastic and classic VG franchise. Lots of right clicking, a fair amount of left clicking and major use of numbers 1-6. How on earth do you not know about Diablo?!

can't wait for the 15th. Time to kick some demon ass, have waited a long time for this since D2:LOD. Demon hunter will be my first char.

diablo 1 pretty much started the whole Click fest RPG era. Diablo 2 expanded on that, and is still played by loads of people today (I have played it off and on for over 10 years its that good). D3 will hopefully do the same lol. The main thing about the diablo games is they are so simple yet so deep at the same time. I deffo recommend playing 1 and d2/lod, you can pick them up for cheap and run on pretty much any PC. I still remember the first time I played diablo 1, going into level 2 of the church, coming up to the room with corpses in it, opening the door and shitting myself when hearing "AHHHHHHHHH FRESH MEAT!!" well shit me up, was only like 9 or so at the time lol.

Excited about this.

Why aren't Blizzard games well represented on RAWK? Don't really give a damn about WoW, but judging by this and the Starcraft 2 thread these games don't seem to be very popular on this board.

starcraft 2 is too difficult for anyone to enjoy unless you really enjoy learning a game to a high skill level. if u play sc2 online you will get raped unless you are ready to improve your play diabloi.

wow is probably seen as too nerdy for most .

Diablo is also quite hardcore when you get down to it, though less so than the others. i think most people just see it as point and click when ofcourse there is so much more.

Could you expand on this?
I've played one and two and it is what it is, clickathon with some light RPG elements.
What more is there, what are we missing?

The interesting thing about D2 is that anyone can play on normal difficulty but if you keep progressing to hell difficulty it's impossible unless you have built your character perfectly. Also, people online have put a lot of time to putting together the perfect set of skills with the perfect items, and if you play PVP online against most people they will usually kill you in seconds.

So it's about online mostly?
Don't really play online so can't comment, but almost every game has freaks that are near perfect destroying people in multiplayer games.
From what I remember of the single player experience it was fun but repetative and if there is some hidden depth to it I probably missed it. Then again I'm mostly into RPG's so it explains why I'd see Diablo as fun and shallow, perhaps just my bias talking.

Diablo 3 will have four levels of difficulty so even offline, the harder ones will probably be near-impossible unless people put a lot of time into choosing the skills etc. That is appealing to some people whereas others may see it as repetitive. I find item hunting stupidly addictive to the point that even after playing D2 for more than ten years, i still get a buzz when I see a unique item drop.

There is a formula for these type of games.. the carrot on the stick that keeps you playing and playing. Blizzard have it down to a tee.

It is shamelessly fun and shallow. I hardly even consider games like Diablo RPGs.

Will probably end up buying it, but only to play with friends.

Diablo 3 will have four levels of difficulty so even offline

Sorry to sound pedantic but there isn't actually going to be an offline single player mode in D3.
You can play by your self online but with out the internet you can't play it.

As far as I'm aware....
Rafa tried to buy everyone.  :)

Probably never. There was some talk of a console version by the developers a while ago, but Blizzard has been PC/Mac only since their Blackthorn/Lost Vikings days.

If they were going to do it, I'd say 8 months to a year minimum after the PC/Mac release day.

Didn't know it was so strictly online orientated, I guess Blizzard will look to earn silly money just like they do with Warcraft. Not for me this, a game without a proper offline single player mode.
