Enabling work starts on new LFC stadium
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:21:23 pm »
Liverpool City Council granted full planning permission on June 19 to Liverpool Football Club to build a 60,000 seater stadium and outline planning permission for a mixed use development on the existing Anfield stadium site.
The stadium will incorporate a club shop, conference and banqueting facilities, parking for almost 1,000 vehicles and a Community Partnership centre. Its design is ultimately capable of accommodating up to 73,000 people subject to further planning permission.

LFC has instructed Laing O'Rourke to commence enabling works under a licence issued by the Liverpool City Council. Works started on June 23.

Co-chairman George Gillett said: "This is a significant milestone for the club and I am delighted that the design received full planning consent and that we are now on site.

"We have been working very hard over the last six months to move the details of the design along but this is the first tangible evidence for fans that a New LFC Stadium will be built.

"The stadium design is unique and will be recognised across the world as the Liverpool FC Stadium. It incorporates a Kop stand that will hold 18,000 fans and we hope that the stadium will be as noisy and atmospheric on a matchday as Anfield."

Co-chairman Tom Hicks added: "We recognise the importance of a new LFC Stadium as part of the wider regeneration of the local area.

"We have watched the council transform Stanley Park over the last six months and the ongoing refurbishment of houses in the Anfield/ Breckfield area. I am pleased that now the club has received full planning permission it can join the regeneration process with the commencement of enabling works."

The stadium is on programme to open for the beginning of the 2011-12 season.

More evidence that the club is about to be sold- if contracts are signed with LOR and the stadium is underway it must surely increase the market value of the club- as backward as it sounds.

you do realise that not everywhere in the park has trees and birds you know.  And legally the club could start nothing until full planning permission was obtained which was 6 days ago.

But no, just continue your moaning as it's the only thing that will actually keep you happy.

No, the nests cannot be moved until the season is over.  It doesn't stop them doing prep work like access points etc.  Have a look in the planning documents and on the RSPB site for details on what can and can't be done when building in an area inhabited by birds.

;D  Btw that's the original stadium, before the downgrade, not the present one and I've only just noticed the latest picture on the official site of the Kop with the crowd in. Looks impressive but I still don't like the platform (disabled or otherwise) going halfway across. It's an eyesore and spoils the single tier we were promised. Before the politically correct get involved again there are 3 other stands in the stadium where the disabled fans could have a great position. A unique Kop, steep incline, one tier, no platforms please.

The Contractors on site are Ayrefield, who have a 17 week Contract to start the enabling work, the Area where the old houses where behind the Anfield Road End needs to be level, also Hoardings are to be erected from the old John Houldings house(adjacent to Skerries Road) to Mill Lane (pathway in Stanley Park) and continue down Mill Lane for approx 50 yards, until the Main Contractors are on site, whenever that maybe!!!!

Don't think so. It's been said by posters on here in the know that it's a disabled platform. Not even those idiots would try to get away with corporate in the Kop, would they? Anyway, whatever it is it's an eyesore, get rid, as I said, there's plenty of other areas in the ground for the disabled platforms.

can anyone answer me this question, does each stand have to have disabled access, or does the stadium as a whole have to have so many places with the club deciding where those places will be.

Not every stand must have disabled access, how many stadiums do you see with access in every stand. The club can decide.

Most stadia are not new ones though.  If there is a legal requirement then it will only apply to new stadia and newly built stands.

You're right, and I'm not 100% sure but I'll do a 4pool and wager you 1p that not every stand has to have disabled access even on the new grounds   ;)

corporate boxes in the KOP would be the best sellers and facts that haven't happened yet can always be changed because they aint facts and as discussed previously they dont give a shit what we think!!!
i can see it now that  for safety reasons we have been advised to move the disabled area to another part of the ground and the best use of the area with built in lifts will be top corporate boxes

Thing is the Kop is a fairly intimidating place to be in unless you're used to it and know how to act, and if you don't look a certain way. If they did change it and put Boxes in there the people sitting in them would be in for alot of stick imo. I wager it wouldn't be a comfortable experience to be sitting there in a suit with champagne & buffets. The regulars just wouldn't take to it. Within a season or two and a few horror stories I bet those boxes wouldn't be as popular as some people think.
