Council are being snide c*nts on the Meadows. They argue that they are unused whereas in reality in previous years they have been used for games, army fitness, and just people sitting out and chilling. This year in an attempt to prove their disingenuous lie they have left them both unmown so that they cannot be used.
It's a snide trick. For the council the argument that some green space next to a large block of green space is a sacrifice we need to make in order to keep libraries or social care is a winnable one without resorting to underhand deceit.
If I was the campaign group trying to save the meadows then I would be getting some scythes in and advertising a community mow-down. Cut the grass. Use the meadows as they have been in the past.
There two points for you to ponder though Kev.
1. The 'meadows' is hardly used, I lived in Aigburth for 25 years and I drive past there to my mums very, very frequently. There may be a strong argument not to build on greenspace but lets not kid ourselves they are well used peices of land. They never have been at all.
2. Look at the rest of the park - its scandalously overgrown, its not being snide, its about the reduction in the grass cutting schedule. Although its not a reduction its practically a cessation. There are two fields on the actual park where we use to play 7 or 11 aside footy every week which are now a foot high in grass. Its fucking outrageous that the council are forced to review the schedule due to government cuts.
So the meadows, which incidentally we never played footy on ever, is suffering the same neglect as the rest of the park due to severe cuts.
