The only times the words 'love' and 'muse' (as referring to the band, of course, not the concept) should be in the same sentence are:

'I'd love to kick Matt Gonk Bellamy from Muse's head in'

and

'I'd love it if Muse disappeared off the face of the earth'

 ;D
They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.

I saw Muse on a Christmas special on TotP a few years back, and they were terrible. Their song was a cynically produced, tongue-in-cheek incitement for teenagers to rise up against some non-specific 'the Man', that was particularly offensive as they sell stadiums out and pretty much are a money-making machine for 'the Man' of whom they speak.

I'm not saying all the music I listen to is boss and everyone else should listen to my particular tastes, (not this time  :P) but I really have a strong hatred for a band trying to pretend they have a political point to make when they really just want their hand in the pockets of 'the kids' oversized black Muse hooded tops, and the kids swallow this false insurrection lark, before forgetting it and going on to work and get their hair cut. At least other baggily-attired bands such as RatM could point to specifics in their lyrics, there was at least a 6th form history class essay feel to them, Muse always seem to hide behind bland generalities for me.

Apologies for derailing this thread, I just can't contain my contempt for them.

RE: Later...I used to really like it back in the day, the classic At The Drive In performance where Robbie Williams shat himself live was hilarious and is an example of the good things that come from the format, not that I'm a fan of either. I just came to really dislike Holland himself, his relentless boogie-woogying along really grating on occasion. My Mum also bought me his autobiography for Christmas a year or two back, which not only seemed to highlight just how much I am jealous of his life experience when I read it, but just how much my Mum and I perhaps seem to know each other so well any more  :-\

I can imagine that if heaven had a jukebox it'd have everything on it by The XX.

Loved PIL, original incarnation, but I can't watch Lydon without thinking about an extemely tasty butter.

Hate Muse, but that song Madness is curiously soulful. Big improvement. See that guys bass guitar..? Had a kind of touch synth built into it.

Love The Beach Boys, but Brian Wilson, sadly, should be at home resting and not on tour. Why is it all the good music I hear these days seems to hark back a decade or three..?

Seemed fine to me.

I'm an old fart, I like a lot of different music, pretty open minded, but I just don't get Muse. I found them really annoying actually.
Remind me a bit of U2. Earnest, overblown, bombastic, up their own arses.
PIL were good, Beach Boys were heavenly. Would be nice to see a different presenter but fair play to him, there's always at least one interesting artist on the show.

Tbf, Lydon did say all his extra curricular 'work' enabled him to finance PIL.

Saw Muse years ago, in between their first and second albums, and they were brilliant. One of the best gigs I've been to. They really have gone off the boil since that though.

Looking forward to tonight to see two bands that I'm going to see in the next couple of months, Mumford & Sons and Savages.  Bailed on a ticket back in July for the latter, now seeing them in a month but I've heard they're terrific live.

As always I'll be on the lookout for a couple of surprises.

Seems only appropriate to give this a bump for the Hootenanny...a national institution and a reminder, after a bumpy year, that the BBC does bare fruit on a regular basis.

Think its quality myself.  Dexys, Petula Clarke, Bobby Womack, all brilliant.  That Emili Sande has also been good, never thought much of her before.

Quality music.

best hootenanny for ages. adam ant got everyone going, i thought petula clarke was brilliant, loved dexys and roland gift.  one of the best things about these shows is watching the famous people in the background when the acts are performing, i dont think ill be able to watch the news the same again after seeing an obviously drunk fiona bruce jigging away with john bishop to 'stand and deliver'.

Is Tuesday the short show and there's an extended version later in the week?  ...and, if so, does all of tonight's show get shown in the extended edition?

Not quite that straight forward but tonight's live and ~30mins, Friday's ~1hr and there's a fair chunk of crossover.
I'd love it if they were completely independent but often the same songs come up in each, seems a bit pointless.

Yes, I thought it was along those lines - so you might expect to have Suede perform four songs, two of which were shown last night (hypothethically as I haven't yet watched!) and three of which might be shown on Friday (though only one repeated)...

Great to see Suede back and sounding well. Enjoyed Cat Power and Laura Mvula who both have sensational vocals.

As for 'The Strypes' - meh.

I think it's clear The Strypes have got huge talent for their age, they need to be locked away for a year or so so they can write a bunch of their own songs and develop naturally instead of being thrust into this limelight so quickly.

Just checked them out to see what the fuss was all about and I can totally see what you mean by that.  You put together a band from Sweden and you get The Hives, you put together a band in Britain and you get The Strypes.

And The Hives are much more fun.
