So uninspiring this week even the radio times are getting sarcastic...

Quote
Cee Lo Green was only on Later in October. But hey, he's touring Europe again and he is fantastic, so here he is again. You might, maybe, find him employing his rangy soul twang on his old hit Crazy by Gnarls Barkley - he's been playing it live. The rock legend on the show is Robbie Robertson, once of the Band, but silent for a decade as a solo artist. Ten years away haven't helped him find a credible sound on his new LP. Also up are Glasvegas - defiantly overcooked Spectoral Scots - and Seun Kuti, son of genius afrobeat pioneer Fela. Do you ever nip to the kitchen during the "world" act? This is not the week to do that.

Coldplay were very good and Emile Sande was impressive once again after her performance on the X Factor. She's got a fantastic voice with great future potential.

Lou Reed has reached many nadir's in his career but working with Metallica may well top them all...and yes i include Metal Machine Music in that.

When I turned over right at the start I honestly thought Jason Newstead had suffered some horrific ageing and rejoined the band.  I then sat and listened with my mouth open unable to comprehend what the hell was going on...

I'm a massive Velvets fan and find it very hard to say anything against Lou Reed but the set last night was an absolute nightmare. First song was averagish but the version of waiting for my man was just horrendous.

A bunch of artists who surely are old enough to know better, and have must enough money in the bank not to have to indulge in these kinds of charades.

I am waiting for the Friday show to experience the Lou Reed/Metallica debacle.

I like some of LR's early albums and Metallica's early stuff (and their last album was good), but one listen of this collaboration last week was enough to say never again.
It sounded like a piss head getting up onstage with a bar band while they jammed.
Surely people associated with them can't all be YES men and tell them it's shite?

Me too mate, fucking love The Velvets and Reed has always been an interesting songwriter but if i'm honest as a solo artist he's been maddeningly inconsistent, i like about 3 Lou Reed solo albums, 3 albums in a career spanning 40 years does not a genius make. In some respects Lou's been living off his Velvets reputation for far too long now...and he's got to be one of the worst live performers i've ever seen.

So this collaboration with Metallica (who i've never liked) doesn't come as such a surprise, after all this is the guy who made Metal Machine Music.

Lou Reed was a member of one of the most influential and important bands of the last 50 years and for that he should be remembered fondly, as a solo artist though he falls way short of the kind of legendary status that Bob Dylan and Neil Young have.

I feel the exact same way but I just hold the velvets' work and even some of his early solo work in such a high esteem that for me he is a legend like Dylan and Young.  Somewhere down the line though experimentation seems to have taken precedence over writing good songs and experimentation for the sake of it is pointless IMO.  Lulu is an abomination and as much as I can't stand Metallica, I can't put it all down to them.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Oh I agree completely Jooney, what i meant was that as part of The Velvets Lou, along with John, Sterling and Mo are all legends but as a solo artist he's nowhere near the level of a Dylan/Young.

You're also spot on about his favouring of experimentation over good song writing which is a real shame, as anybody who has ever heard Berlin, New York or his work with The Velvets will know just how great a songwriter Lou Reed can be.

The only times the words 'love' and 'muse' (as referring to the band, of course, not the concept) should be in the same sentence are:

'I'd love to kick Matt Gonk Bellamy from Muse's head in'

and

'I'd love it if Muse disappeared off the face of the earth'

which is true, at least he could be somewhat constructive or have an actual point or reason for posting, all he said he wanted to kick somones head in and for the band to disapear off the face of the earth. again its a pointless post when the thread isnt even about them, just the fact they are on a tv show.

anyway, im looking forward to it.

I saw them them late 79 and Lydon just didn't give a fuck but Wobble was brilliant.

Muse are ok,nothing special,I've just dled the new one and I'm listening to it now.Typical Muse production.

I'm going to give the show a look tonight even though I can't stand Holland.Beach Boys,PIL and Muse sound's ok.Plus I've never heard The XX.

Yeah Wobble was great, it's a shame they can't get back together, would pay to see that.
That's the thing with Lydon, hit and miss, but when he's good he's really good.

Jools Holland and his bloody boogie woogie piano!
Someone told me that when the Fall were on, Mark E Smith insisted on having it in writing that JH wouldn't be anywhere near the piano when they were on!
