lewis isn't finished. but he did have 5 months off.

MVG, Anderson, Wright, Superchin, Mensur, Barney, all better than him plus as shown already they're some up and coming players such as Price, smith are primed to overtake him.

Finished.

Yeah course. Because everything's either the best thing ever or the worst these days.

Anderson went down to about 19 a few years back and was shite (due to personal issues) but he's done alright since.

Anderson's problem was he was scoring but couldn't hit doubles. Now he can score heavy and hit doubles. Personal issues are different but it seems everything is ok in Lewis's life but I can only really talk about his darting performance and for me he is nowhere near the player he was

Lewis before his injury was on his way out and with the players above him around his age and some younger I just don't see a way back for him.

Darts players have such long careers so it is impossible to write someone clearly as talented as Lewis off. He's only 32.

With a full season under his belt and a couple of tournament wins he could regain the confidence of a few years ago and be a force again.

You base that on Taylor and Barney but forget that now the money in darts is 10 times the amount when they started off. Players like MVG and Lewis won't need to play into their 50's.

MVG has already talked about retiring in his 40's. So with that in mind Lewis has about 10 years but I am sorry to say with the likes of Smith,  van den bergh, cadby, Payne, Klye Anderson, Cullen, North, superchin all these are younger than Lewis and improving.

As we with seen already barring I would say MVG and Anderson the gap is closing with the rest.

Lewis is going backwards. Not sure his heart is in it. Maybe too much money already but he won't win a worlds again.

Lewis is both better than pretty much all the players you mentioned and also has a higher ceiling too. Has he got both lazy and complacent? Probably.

Apart from Superchin maybe but my point is all them are younger than Lewis and improving.

Just think him and Wade are done. Both might win the odd competition here and there but not the worlds.

By that logic if MVG wins the Worlds for the next 5 years (entirely possible) does that mean every other darts player bar MVG is 'done'?

Without a doubt MVG could do that because at this moment you only really have Anderson that comes close to him but set game isn't MVG's strength and he could always lose to Barney etc in the set format.

Lewis won't come close to winning the worlds and any of the big competitions. He's finished.

I think you're being too hasty in completely writing Lewis off. He reached the semi-finals of the Matchplay less than 6 months ago.

Yeah seems massively early to say Lewis is done. He's had back surgery this year & whilst there is more to his poor form than that, he's got the talent to win tournaments if he applies himself. Maybe this is the kick up the arse he needs to get going again? You might be right & he doesn't have the hunger anymore, but it's too early to tell

The PL is quite hard to pick for

If you went off earnings it would be

1   Michael van Gerwen   £1,736,250
2   Peter Wright   £770,750
3   Gary Anderson   £718,250
4   Daryl Gurney   £413,250
5   Mensur Suljovic   £368,500
7   Adrian Lewis   £348,000
8   Dave Chisnall   £343,500
9   Raymond van Barneveld   £303,750
10   Simon Whitlock   £301,750
11   James Wade   £300,250

But if I was picking based on 2017 form then I would drop Wade, Lewis and Chizzy and put in Klaasen, Cross and Smith

But if I was basing it off the quick 'entertaining' players that draw crowds I would drop Suljovic and stick in Cross

But then if you want to draw crowds then I wouldn't put it past the PDC to try and convince Phil Taylor to give it another year

My two-penneth for what it's worth, is that MVG's dominance has knocked the stuffing out of a lot of the top players who don't have that win-at-any-cost mentality that the dutchman does.

Lewis, Wade, Thornton, Huybrechts, Whitlock etc have all become far more inconsistent than they used to be - and for most of them, there's no excuse really. They're all young enough to still be maintaining a high level, but if I put myself in their shoes - losing out time and again to the same bloke, it must absolutely ruin you and would affect your motivation massively.

MvG is a great example of someone who didn't give up. I thought he was going to be a star when he went to the PDC but it took time.  He struggled badly for a good couple of years.  Always had the talent but for whatever reason he couldn't win games.

Oh I agree. Easily a PDC wildcard

But I said if I was basing my picks on who I think are the most entertaining players that draw crowds then I would drop him as he's slow at the oche and his English isn't that good

Pipe just sucks all the oxygen out of the room. Its torture having to watch it and cant be great for a player who is quick having to wait around for him.
