Just take a look at the past winners of the decade and ask yourself whether it was the midfield or the strike force that turned out to be more important in the successful UCL campaigns.
It's an interesting view. I think you said it on another thread too. But most Liverpool supporters I know are a little relieved that we aren't facing a Sheva-Crespo axis anymore. Your midfield last time round - Kaka especially - was excellent, but it was the imaginative running and quick-thinking of your strikeforce that really did us in (before Didi joined the fray and Carragher was touched by the Gods).
I'm prepared to believe that Milan's midfield is even better this season. Kaka makes me nervous. Seedorf, who I thought was a busted flush, has looked superb in the later stages of the cup. Only Pirlo has marked time. But our midfield has changed for the better too - both defensively and offensively. The contest in the middle will be tight, whatever Milan's fans think. What you won't get is what you got against Man Utd - players like Carrick and Fletcher who knew in their heart of hearts they weren't good enough to be on the same pitch as Pirlo and Kaka.
It's good that more Milan fans plan to travel this time. But they'll have to drop their traditional reserve once the game starts and get behind their team. Because the Reds will be roared on, as they always are on nights like these, by a "crazy, passionate stadium" (Valdano
