Any other app is probably as holey, but it's difficult to exploit other apps as you have to persuade a user to open a specific file in that app. With a browser, all they have to do is look at your site.

IE7 'seems' far more secure and I'm sure it should be harder to exploit. The problem I'm finding is that it's almost unuseable and I have to keep lowering security settings in it.

The main problem with IE is that it's integrated into the OS (Explorer uses bits of it etc), so any problems with it are potentially more serious than with other browsers. I agree though that IE 7 is a lot more secure, I stopped using it because you now can't customise it as you used to be able to.

Device driver hacking is technically challenging, but the field has become more appealing in recent years, thanks in part to new software tools that make it easier for less technically savvy hackers, known as script kiddies, to attack wireless cards, Maynor said in an interview.

The two researchers used an open-source 802.11 hacking tool called LORCON (Loss of Radio Connectivity) to throw an extremely large number of wireless packets at different wireless cards. Hackers use this technique, called fuzzing, to see if they can cause programs to fail, or perhaps even run unauthorized software when they are bombarded with unexpected data.

Using tools like LORCON, Maynor and Ellch were able to discover many examples of wireless device driver flaws, including one that allowed them to take over a laptop by exploiting a bug in an 802.11 wireless driver. They also examined other networking technologies including Bluetooth, Ev-Do (EVolution-Data Only), and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access).

I just recently had my home PC hacked. The hacker created a new user account and password protected my account and any sub accounts I had. I run Windows XP. Luckily, from the tricks of the trade I was able to regain access to my desktop through a security hole using the Windows installation disk. I was able to delete the new account the hacker created and I changed all the passwords.

I was also able to pull up the security log in event viewer, and saw that he logged into my PC almost every night for the past couple weeks.

PC's have been hacked through their wireless. Otherwise there would be no need for all the security, firewalls etc.
