Detestable as O'Reilly is, as crude, tasteless, and unfunny as that "joke" is, let's not bury heads in the sand and pretend as if those aren't also issues facing the black community in america just because they came from the mouth of a professional moron.

O'Reilly, can't belief they still use him. O'Reilly on the New Orleans floods..' hey if you don't want to end up on top of your roof with your house flooded...get a job'.

But RT...Russia Today are nearly as bad.
Me neither, but he has very high ratings with the geriatric crowd, Murdoch wants that metamucil ad money. I can't believe that he has verbatim dictation of his monologue on the screen next to him as he speaks in some of his segments. Subtitling for his hearing impaired constituency it may be, but it screams audience condescension to me every time I see it.

You are missing the point here. It's not about if those issues exist or not, it's the fact that O'Reilly pretty much states it's their own fault they suffer in that way, like it's a choice.

The man is an odious piece of shit. He's employed by Fox news, what do you expect?

When you say suffer in that way, you mean deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of the police right? I didn't watch the clip, just read the blurb, so may be missing some context. I assumed his point was that in the black community external issues get demonstrations and t-shirts worn by famous people, while internal community issues such as those he noted aren't really addressed.

Its more the national media attention that comes with shootings and deaths. There are thousands of groups and communities that fight those inner issues...its just not in the media because death causes unrest. You cant afford to be in the streets protesting single parenthood, when you're struggling with single parenthood. The t shirts and mass protests are from something that really needs to be brought to the white world's attention. A lot of cops throughout America's history have been racist and murderous in all non-white communities. This day and age, with everything being filmed, this is something that can be stopped NOW.

Bill O'Reilly has the right to make those points. He should actively continue having debates on those subjects. However in this particular instance, he is doing what all right wing assholes in the media do....deflecting the point...and making it a new conversation. He should man the fuck up and answer the question that is brought in front of him, instead of changing the discussion. As he just did with you...the reason we are chatting about it right now. Its wonderful - this is Fox News manipulation at its finest.

I agree with all that. I defend his right to talk about something that merits discussion in my opinion, but he goes about it the wrong way of course. Martin King III has it right. Also, when they talking about natural disasters bringing Americans together, the omission of the way Katrina was handled was glaring.

I'm not being manipulated, I think both are valid conversations to be having in the name of change and improvement for everyone's benefit. That doesn't mean I'm siding with O'Reilly's ideas, tone, general demeanor or lack of tact.

"But it's a little misleading," O'Reilly continues. "It's not that they don't believe the Earth is getting warmer -- anyone who can read a thermometer knows it is -- they don't believe that it's been proven conclusively that it's because man is doing certain things. ... It's easier to believe in a benevolent God -- the baby Jesus -- than it is in some kind of theory about global warming. It's just easier, isn't it not?"

If people like him represented the entire human race we would have accomplished absolutely nothing. In so many cases like the discovery of electricity, the internet and other things that have made peoples lives better these things were not come about easily and thus using O'Reilly logic wouldn't have been worth doing. If it were up to people like him then humanity would be living in a constant state of fear and inhibition. If this really is reflective of his world view then I suppose you can see where his politics come from.

What a stupid, negative, worthless buffoon he is.

Even for Bill O'Reilly, this is bad

He’s slipped under the radar while his Fox News colleagues steal the outraged limelight, but Bill O’Reilly is back with a bang.

The O’Reilly Factor host was discussing Barack Obama’s backing of NBA star Lebron James’s “I can’t breathe T-shirt” - the last words spoken by Eric Garner while he was choked by an NYPD officer - with Martin Luther King III, Martin Luther King Jr’s oldest son.

O’Reilly said he had no problem with Obama supporting the gesture but wanted more leadership from the president.

So far, so sane.

But then he suggested alternative T-shirts that black people might want to consider wearing, T-shirts bearing slogans like:

  • Don’t get pregnant at 14
  • Don’t abandon your children
  • Don’t allow your neighbourhoods into free-fire zones

“That’s what the African-American community should have on their T-shirts,” he said. “Am I wrong?”

Racism plain and simple. He is scum.
The sky does not know of east or of west;
it is in the minds of men where such distinctions are made, and then they believe them to be true.

Local Fox affiliates aren't Fox News. They're shows on the over the air Fox channel, not on Fox News. They're editorially separate from FNC, and they aren't notorious for having an ideological position. Similarly, MSNBC isn't actively involved in local NBC newscasts. The only major distinction locally is the Fox local news is on at 10 PM, and the local news on CBS/ABC/NBC is at 11.

Also, it's not like they needed to invent recent anti-cop protesters calling for dead cops, so whoever decided to do so wasn't doing their best for his/her side of The Narrative.

Fair enough mate. I thought I read they were still funded by Fox News but they're obviously just independent news networks.

Nah they are just representing a fair and balanced argument. You see most media won't tell you that Birmingham is no go zone for non muslims so that must mean that there is no balance. Fox are simply providing that balance. The thing with journalism is that the truth really doesn't matter much, what matters more is balance.

Apology for 'Muslim-only Birmingham'

An American terrorism commentator speaking on Fox News has been forced to apologise for describing Birmingham as a "Muslim-only city" where non-Muslims "don't go in".

Steven Emerson told the channel that in London "Muslim religious police" beat "anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire".

He later issued an apology for his "terrible error".

But many on social media have been ridiculing his comments.

One claimed: "Birmingham's refuse collectors are all Bin Laden."

Another tweet said: "As someone born and raised in Birmingham, I must admit there was a pressure to read the Kerrang."

"I was supposed to go to Birmingham last week but I forgot my passport," said one tweeter.
'No excuse'

His comments about Birmingham and London led to many reacting on hashtag #FoxNewsFacts.

Some accused him on his investigative website of "speaking nonsense" and called his claims "utter rubbish".

Emerson, who founded a group called The Investigative Project on Terrorism, was giving his perspective on the terror attacks in France to Fox presenter Jeanine Pirro.

A witness called to testify to at least one Congressional committee, he later apologised and has offered to make a donation to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

"I have clearly made a terrible error for which I am deeply sorry. My comments about Birmingham were totally in error."

He said he would be issuing an apology on his website for "this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham".

"I do not intend to justify or mitigate my mistake by stating that I had relied on other sources because I should have been much more careful.

"There was no excuse for making this mistake and I owe an apology to every resident of Birmingham."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-30773297

"this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham".

Now he's just taking the piss.

It's clearly not "a mistake" though, it was an attempt to push his agenda. He didn't accidently think non-muslims didn't enter Birmingham, and I doubt he really believed that muslim police go around beating up people not wearing Islamic clothing.

he's just a racist piece of shit trying to shout ignorance to the masses and then whispering *oops sorry not really*

Of course he's apologised, now that he's made his point to his 'viewers' on FOX. How many of them will hear or even care about this apology? An apology is not the same as correcting a factual error you have made when drip feeding prejudice to morons.

As I understand it, from a religious standpoint Birmingham is actually about half Christian, with the remainder roughly split between Islam and don't cares.

"The city is now called Birming because Ham is not halal..."  ;D
