RT @NBCSportsPR: Sunday's Liverpool-Man City thriller on NBCSN is 2nd-most watched early Sunday @premierleague match in U.S. history with 740,000 viewers

I wonder what #1 was, but 740k viewers? Damn impressive for the kickoff time, wow.

I did a little googling earlier and think it may have been our game against Manchester United last month. The Manchester Derby wasn't the early Sunday match (though it did have higher ratings).

It was pretty good. But I had two points to pick.

1: They never mentioned Anne Williams. It was her taking on the courts that her son Kevin was still alive after the coroners arbitrary cut-off time of 3:15pm which kept the fight for Justice going.

2: They never showed the Prime Ministers Apology.

I told my wife that same thing about the prime minister.  That was a big miss.  That's the first coverage I've heard of in the US no?

Can you imagine if we were able to watch this epic play of good v evil (that might be a stretch sure, but the Evil role was cast to perfection) with a decent pregame intro, maybe some analysis, maybe some robbie earle?  instead, it's going to be rob stone selling you some fuckin budweiser, warren barton starring as Warren Barton, the perpetually pissy wynalda, the 'gotta love him for trying, but cripes enough already' Brian mcB........watching him try to use the "player graphics" is a harrowing experience and usually ends about as well as basejumping naked.  Brian gets up there, with this NFL style tactics board that the Fox assclowns move around arbitrarily (they'll take the player icon for the forwards.....and move them forward.  and that's typically it.  it's like watching rocket scientists discuss the trajectory required for launch, only the exact opposite), and if you look closely enough, you can actually see poor McBride crapping in his pants.  I still love Brian McBride but I don't see this, him and the footy punditry, mainly due to the challenge that push screen icons the size of a rhino's head are for him.  I want my buttons pushed on time, dammit!  But honestly if you're ever looking for a laugh, this is a definite running subplot and he usually just gives up after 1 or 2 attempts at hitting a button before saying fuck it, squaring his shoulders, and just plowing the fuck on.  It's wondrous.

I might just be describing one incident.  I don't care.

I'm excited to see Atletico and would love to hear something beyond "expect Chelsea to sit deep, soak, counter.  atletico press!  this, is jose mourinho."

Thought this was interesting.

NEW YORK (AP) — Manchester United was the most-watched Premier League team in the United States despite its poorest season in a quarter-century.

United averaged 557,000 viewers for its telecasts on NBCUniversal networks this season, according to data released by the networks.

Liverpool was second at 519,000, followed by Chelsea (515,000), Swansea (485,000), Arsenal (477,000) and champion Manchester City (456,000).

The least-watched teams were Hull (302,000), West Bromwich Albion (315,000), Fulham (332,000), Stoke (339,000) and Southampton (343,000).

Figures include telecasts on NBC, NBCSN plus several games on other networks such as USA and CNBC. Games on the Premier League Extra Time package are not included.

Honestly I found myself watching a lot more United games to see how bad they would screw up.

I think they were the most watched, because it was their worst season, not despite it.

Don't have any evidence to support this (and I'm far too lazy to look it up), but I'd venture if one was to look this up he/she would find that United had the most matches to air on NBC which would account for the increased ratings. Could be wrong, though.

You might remember United and Liverpool coming over here in the summer of 2004. Each played 3 matches and from memory United played to crowds of 70K(Chicago), 55K (Philly) and 72K(NY/NJ). Our crowds were 20K(Connecticut), 40K(Toronto) and 25K(NY/NJ) respectively.  I was at our match against Roma at Giants Stadium and it was 2/3 empty. United played Milan several days earlier in the same stadium to the 72K mentioned earlier. Take from that what you will but they're the bigger draw - at least over here.

It's an average.

In 2004 the club promoted their own tour. We were mid table. Man Utd we're promoted by in a Champions Cup.

This summer we're being promoted in a Champions Cup and the stadiums are near sell outs. I'm going to Charlotte and the best seat available left on Ticket master is in the nose bleed sections.

I think the club learned the difference. When we were involved as a potential side to join in, one could hardly call us Champions. Of course our run towards the title has given us a bit better platform to be promoted instead of on past glories.
