Plenty of time to source a Mozambique and Cape Verde kit for the watchalongs and hope both teams do the business against Egypt!

Why, why, why is AFCON a 24 team tournament? No continental competition should be more than 16 and no World Cup more than 32.

I am not going to pretend that I am any different. Yeah, will be pleased for Mo if they win it, but can`t pretend I wouldn`t like him back at the earliest possible opportunity - preferably not injured ! All I am really interested in is Liverpool and what's best for us as a club.

Ideal scenario is of course that they get knocked out in the groups and we get Mo back as soon as possible. Failing that though I want Egypt to go and win the whole thing - none of this bollocks where they get to the semi finals and Mo comes home exhausted and deflated.

And why is it every 2 years? In general I don't give a toss which international sides our players qualify for but the mid-season, two yearly AFCON leads me to prefer that we focus on signing South American and European players.

Why, why, why is AFCON a 24 team tournament? No continental competition should be more than 16 and no World Cup more than 32.

Both this and the Asia Cup have a daft format where they have a 24 team group stage, with 16 going to the knock out stages.
(The Euros now have this format as well).

From a footballing/competition perspective, it seems completely unneccessary. But of course from a financial perspective, it's more games, so more money.

It does raise the possibility that with enough mis-matched groups,  a team could draw 1 and lose 2 in the group stages and still go through to the knock outs.

Anyone else hoping Egypt get knocked out at the earliest opportunity so we get Mo back?

Ok I'll say it

Yes. I don't see the cardinal sin in that.

who are the favourites for afcon ?

any players that liverpool should be scouting ?

Morocco are 5/1 favs. Egypt are 9/1, 5th in the betting.

Endo and his pals are 9/4 favs for the Asian Cup.

Having a Round of 16 for this a joke. Basically the best case scenario for Liverpool is Egypt get a tough QF and Mo is back to face Arsenal at the Emirates.

Looking at the OP safe to say Mo will miss the game at Arse in early Feb.. Bollocks.

Egypt would literally have to finish bottom and he'd be home for Chelsea game on 31st. Thats not happening

To be home for Arsenal Egypt would have to go out in the r16. They could play the big boys but it's very unlikely, more likely looks like DR Congo

I don't make Egypt favourites personally. But they should be getting to the semis on 7th.

Quarters are on 2/3rd

Arsenal is on 4th

Last time he missed 2 games before coming back into it. If he makes the final you'll not see him back in red until  late feb

Yes. I am. Sorry Egyptian fans.

I don't think they are that good this year. I can see them getting knocked out before the semis.

I'm sure Egyptian36 will tell me i'm deluded.

Ah shit I got my dates mixed up thought it was 4/5 days between Quarters and Arsenal league game. Although I don't think Egypt are good enough to win, they do have the best player in the comp who could easily carry them to the semis. Not an ideal situation for Liverpool to be missing our best player for that long when trying to stay in title contention for the latter part of the season.

It's fucked. Should just break for 4 weeks if they insist on having it in January

Egypt 2-0 Tanzania - a pre-tournament friendly match today...

'Salah's assist in Egypt's friendly match today' for Trezeguet's opening goal on 32' - https://v.redd.it/vlz9evf8j2bc1

Salah played all 90 minutes.

Though he did 'miss' a penalty on 73' - https://twitter.com/LusbyJack/status/1744055957078843773 & https://twitter.com/oluwashina/status/1744076481293173118

^ it counts as an 'own goal'  by Manula, the Tanzania goalkeeper, apparently...

Thank Gawd Salah is away for a few weeks, so we can have someone else on penalties. ;)
