Wonderful calmness to his game without that flaw of looking too casual/relaxed that a lot of young players have

think that is a plus point for a defender isn't it. i didnt think van dijk was any good when i watched him with the saints. hardly any highlights of blockbuster sliding tackles and looks way to casual. didn't think maldini and nesta was any good either. they have defending down to an artform.

Yeah, I agree, it's a good thing. His development is definitely on the right track, and I hope he stays clear of injuries.

The thing is, if you'd said we were playing a youngster from the squad in the first team at the beginning og the season I would have been worried. When I see his name on the team sheet I worry no more (possibly less) than when I see Gomez or Matip, he's that good.

He does look the real deal. Looks like he reads the game brilliantly for the experience he has. Don't think he has the pace of some of the other lads but he's far from slow.

He's not exactly slow though and as you alluded to, if he has the positioning sense then it'll not hold him back.

Not at all and we are blessed with very fast lads in that position. For example if you threw him into a Liverpool side of 10/15 years ago he'd probably be the fastest.

Can be skewed a bit by the systems they played in. Under Houllier in particular we were generally very deep denying space in behind. If opponents did get in behind, Sami and Jamie were generally quick enough to recover over short distances in and around the box. Had they been asked to defend on half way like Jurgen’s boys do, it would have been a calamity.

Let's hope not, we'd probably lose him for AFCON for years to come.

Konate and 'The Q' were excellent on Thursday, looking forward to seeing his next performances, presumably in the Europa League and probably the Bournemouth cup game, he looks the part already in the squad.

Difficult conditions for a CB, especially with the keeper clearly struggling. But he was faultless and composed throughout. Really impressed with him this season.

Nat Phillips type job in terms of out-and-out defending (blocks, tackles, aerial dominance etc) but he's got a lot more to his game as well.

In those conditions that's exactly what we needed.

Do we really need to buy another CB now? Honestly if you just watch the performances of all of our CBs from the beginning of the season, well sure Quansah's play style is different, but you can't tell his level is much lower than any of the other 3, if at all.

Didn't watch the second half but was struck by how comfortable and brave he was in stepping forward with the ball to try to create options. He was stepping into pressure and tight areas and finding a way through (most of the time) to break Bournemoth's high press. Very impressive in addition to his obvious defensive qualities.

Obviously he's very young and conditions were horrendous today so everything wasn't perfect but what a performance by the big man nonetheless. Really impressive for me.
