Holding onto him is key....

Key to what, though? Finishing 7th or 12th or avoiding relegation?

The entire club is totally devoid of direction at owner and board level and has been for three years. Rafa and the players just about held it together last season, but there's only so long that could happen. There's only so much you can do as an employee when the senior management are totally fucking shit.

Roy can't 'fix' anything cos he doesn't have the authority to fix what's over his head. All he can try to do is keep bailing to keep the ship afloat, and it doesn't look like he's got what it takes.

I'm not sure what you mean by that but we have too much talent at the club to finish anywhere near where we are now

OK...Why isnt he capable? You think simply bad tactics and man management has put us third bottom in the League? Why isnt he up to the job?
Also WHO would be up for this near impossible job? I doubt anyone would.

Question. have you watched any of our games this season?

the next few games arent looking too good for roy either. testing times indeed..

game against everton in 2 weeks is massive for roy.

Which sort of misses the point that it's massive for us. If we lose it's likely we'd be bottom of the league.

Roy can walk away.

I´ve never seen a manager doing more damage in such a short period of time than Hodgson til now. Oh wait, Souness...
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

Yes but you could also bet that on RAWK, a Pellegrini or whoever would also be getting completely absolved of ANY of the blame. I doubt the knives would be out on here as much as they are for Hodgson.

If Pellegrini were in charge then we wouldn't have started this badly, no way.

Totally agree.
We are Liverpool Football Club. We dont sack Managers after 2-3 months.
The problems are a lot deeper than tactics the Manager deploys. And I am sticking with what I have said during this bad time, is that the players must hold their heads up and be accounted for abysmal displays on the pitch.
Utimateley the Yanks and the Clubs situation determines things on a bigger picture, however I cant help criticising the mass of Internationals who play for that red shirt.
We are all in a mess... The Club, the players the Manager, and the fans. We should collectively all muck in and sort this mess.
Sacking a Manager at this stage will NOT solve a thing. It WILL make it worse.

It all depends on the manager doesnt it? And this is the first time we have been in this situation past chairmans have always hired managers to take the club forward and had a plan, when purslow hired Roy alarm bells should have been ringing all over the place and we shouldnt have aloud it to happen.

No matter how much you want Roy to be our next Bob Paisley he wont be he will always be Roy Hodgson and he is and never will be a Liverpool manager for the longterm future.

We should cut our losses asap before he does anymore damage but I dont want Purslow hiring the next man he thinks is right for the job.

Depend on whom they bring as a replacement.  Look at Tottenham a couple of years ago.

What kind of analogy is that? Spurs are flush and were when Redknapp took over.

Hypothetically speaking what would happen if Roy manned the fuck up and showed the fucking decency we deserve and resigned?

Would that Kelly fella he brought with him take over, or Sammy Lee or even John McMahon? Or would our trusted board bring in a caretaker?

Not sure any manager would really want to take over at the moment.

That is the only reason why Roy got his chance - can't blame him for having a go.

Unfortunately so far it is far worse than even the pessimists feared.

Players look unsure as to what the game plan is and look totally disillusioned with the whole situation. Watching us at the moment is truly painful.

It would need a very special manager to live up to pre-season expectations and unfortunately, for all his good points, Roy is very far from that.

That said can't see any point changing him until the RBS / ownership situation is clearer.

Then I suspect (and I feel some sympathy for the man) Roy will have no long term future at this club.

"Give him more time" and "Who can we bring in now" are unfortunately the only cogent arguments for keeping him at the moment. Its hard to see anything positive coming from the manager that would give you confidence in his ability to turn it around. I hope he improves, but at this point I'm not looking forward to the derby one tiny bit.

Its not me being confident in him alone but in general, managers need a bit of time to sort out a new club they have come to, they want it running the way they had their previous clubs running. That will take a fair bit of time. I think we wont do that badly in the derby, just like against Man United we pulled it out of the bag although screwing up after we got it back to 2-2 we still did a decent job.

We're already in the relegation zone. How can the football side of it possibly get worse? If we keep playing like this we WILL be relegated. We need someone who can bring something to the table tactically, who knows his players' best positions, who knows when to make subs and what subs to make.

Roy's time here has been a car wreck.
it really can get worse...anyone managing us now - including roy - is here as caretaker nothing more. worse, he is a sideshow to the main event - the battle for the very existence of the club. so changing roy and replacing him with A N Other not only diverts attention from the real problem, and places us firmly with the knee jerkers like newcastle and that clown of a chairman at leicester city.
the only possible exception to that would be kenny taking the reins, and making it crystal clear that the scabby performances on the pitch are only the symptoms of a deep rooted disease afflicting the whole club. changing manager can only hope to treat the symptom, not the disease that's killing us - you can't cure cancer with a tube of savlon.

do the pro Roy fans really believe he will turn things around and we will start to win regularly soon? Really, is that you genuine belief? I, and I think many others think he just doesn't have the skills, knowledge and player motivation to do this. In every single game this season his opposing manager has outwitted him and he has been unable to react to chnage the game. As such this is likley to continue and then there is a very real chance if he stays we will continue in the same route of poor tactics and we will lose many more games and become embedded in the bottom three. So its not unfair, or un Liverpool to act decisively now rather than 2 or 3 months down the line. Maybe he can't or won't be sacked, but hopefully he has the good sense to see he should quit now and let Kenny take over.

There is a poll going on re his position, only a few hundred have voted so far but the overwhemling majority won't him to go. http://kopthat.co.uk/?p=845817920

let me see LFC win one more title before my time is up!

Getting so tired of hearing from the same head-in-the-sand people after every bad performance, doing all they can to deflect the blame away from the manager and on to someone, something, anything else. The answers already lay before you, but you continue to be blind to them. You're almost as bad as those who think we're in this mess because of the last manager.

As DonkeyWan put in the post-match thread, so far this is Roy Hodgson's achievements at LFC...

- Spent 9 million on two 30 year old reseves
- Sent a £20 million player on loan to Juventus
- Sent the LB out on loan after saying he liked him
- Played 442 with no wingers since the start of the season
- has a record of Won 1 Drawn 3 Lost 3, or 6/21
- Got knocked out the Carling cup by a relegation threatened League 2 side
- Has Liverpool in the relegation zone for the first time in 26 years.

But it's the PLAYERS' fault we're where we are? Is that the latest spin on things? It's now not the manager, it's the players. I see.

Some players, I agree, are not putting in the effort we should expect from them. That's about it.

Other than that, is it the players who are playing themselves out of position? Is it the players who are picking Christian Poulsen to start practically every game when he offers nothing? Is it the players who are sitting in the dugout with a blank expression on their face while we lose to Blackpool? Is it the players who have decided to go from a 4-2-3-1 formation to a bog standard 4-4-2 which doesn't really work? Is it the players who said "let's get shot of that decent leftback, and hopefully we'll end up without one at some point this season, for a laugh"?

I imagine it's just some huuuuuge coincidence that Hodgson's here at the same time all of this is happening?

Not saying we should sack him. Infact, I'm saying the opposite, I don't want him to be sacked until the owners are gone, but I am looking forward to what people will come up with next as the reason for all of this if not the manager. God forbid you should actually just wake up and think "You know what.....maybe he's not that good and it is his fault we're down where we are".
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

I don't wanna talk about rafa or pellegrini which I think everyone should do the same. But About Roy where the last 4 premier league home games where the performance were abject! Ok , an excuse for 10 men against arsenal, but after that it has been downright downhill.

It was only last season, where outing players out of position were a taboo thing n rotation is a no no, but meireles on the right? Where he flies in the middle for Portugal? Torres playing in a non imp Europa game, where ngog has been in form?n then getting injured after ten mins?

Unlucky n tough fixtures?what's next? Goodison , blackbrun, Bolton n Chelsea, that makes it ten games in all? N what's the target ,4 more points n more draws or even losses?10 pts from ten game.

Honestly I'd much rather get someone from outside the club, maybe even outside England. We rob Peter to pay Paul by taking Kenny away from the academy imo.

If we swallow humble pie and go back to Pellegrini, maybe he'd be willing to take on the job?

i was a no brainer really though wasnt it? Pellegrini was the man for the job.

Hodgson must go now before our season ends in a terminal tailspin. If we let this drag on for another 10 games then we could be staring at the abyss come the turn of the season.

Roy out and Kenny/Thommo combination to steady the ship until new owners come in. Its clear Roy is out of his depth and shows no signs of knowing how to improve.

Dalglish would have the patience and trust of the fans. I'd trust him. I dont trust Roy in the slightest.

He would also know how to get a team playing well - something that seems beyond our current manager.
It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here/ and i'm most obliged to you for making it clear/ that i'm not here

This. If he can't turn things around against Blackpool at home - what chance does he have at everton?
