Overall I would say it does mp3/aac very well indeed and probably as good as any player will. It certainly isn't audiophilic quality (my 5.1 5 yr old videologic dts does more impressive sound) but as a complememnt to the ipod its near damn perfect (especially as my new classic is silver/gray).
I've also managed to hide the sub in a cupboard and the satellites make up the bookends of a middle shelf. So with the grills off, it actually looks rather decent.
Overall a solid 8/10 for me, but at the price we payed, make that a 10.
How have you found it Armin?
That's an excellent description Mooro and one I'd go along with. The bass is powerful enough but you can get a powerful bass out of any old sub, the nice thing about the Klipsch sub is it only enhances the sound rather than dominating it. Full sound is exactly the way I'd describe it, the 2 speakers are excellent as well. I've kept the grilles off and as you say with the sub tucked in a corner they sit nicely along some tall books/pictures, nowhere near as in your face as an all in one unit would be.
I've wound it up once and on the better encoded files its a dream. Without blowing the doors off it would easily supply the music to a party, I wouldn't really listen any louder than it can go anyway. It fills the room and that's sufficient.
It's made me want to reencode some of my music in lossless format, not sure what the ipod will support with that though. It certainly fills a decent sized room and without distorting or feeling as if its straining. My existing stereo wasn't up to much and its far better than that, I'm going to run a cd through it soon to see what its like with a better source than an mp3. A good separates amp and speakers to replace my stereo were on my list of buys but I think I'm happy enough with this, although a true audiophile would want more.
Apologies to Alf and Emlyn if this is doing your head in. I'll stop there
All in all a big hit and a big up to Bez rather than Rawk for the spot. He may be cruelly deluded in his choice of Rugby League team but he can spot a bargain. Drinks on me next time you're at the Halliwell J?
