Just our luck we have to watch Trippier assist the opposition in every game for 2 months then goes missing v us. Woeful, defensive team from them though so should be winning. Hopefully Diaz can do something today.

Fear this will be very tough and difficult. They will lie deep, with everyone behind the ball trying to get us on the counter. They will be very physical, they will cheat and the refs will let them get away with it as usual.

So we have to be perfect, we have to be better in every way and we need to put our chances away. We need to go out there and start the year with force.

Come on Liverpool!!!! YNWA

JoeLinton spends that much time sat on his arse holding his legs rubbing his strains and his hammy yet is fit to play week in week out. Either they have a fantastic medical team, or he just does it to timewaste.

Good strong team and bench. Looking forward to this. If we start fast and hit them early we can make this an easier night, particularly with the excellent options off the bench

I am surprised Diaz is starting in all honesty. I really felt Gakpo would start ahead of him. Time for him to repay the faith Klopp has shown in him.

Good starting XI and the bench is very deep today.  No reason not to spank these Saudis, but I'm expecting a tight, one-goal match.

As others have said I'm expecting Newcastle to play very negative and Taylor to reward their diving. Hoping for a early goal. Also crowd to be the 12th man.

Bobby and Fab both back.

They all took the tyrant's money, so who cares?

All of them let themselves down doing it, they're as bad as the barcodes.

Speaking of which, 3-1 to us.

I thought Newcastle had an injury crisis. That's more or less their strongest team.

They've nearly always been able to put out a decent first XI - Saudi money has made sure of that. Their problem is no quality to change it and the same players getting flogged. Their attack looks strong, but the rest can definitely be got at.
