Cherith was one of those rare people who leave a mark on the lives of anyone who meets them.  Witty, mad as a hatter, good-hearted, generous with her time, she would help anyone out and was a very genuine and genuinely nice person.   I feel for Lee, his children, her family and her very good friends who will have such a big hole in their lives.  And the rest of us, who knew her less but thought so much of her, will miss her too.   Goodnight Cherith, it was a privilege to have known you.  YNWA.

Never having been very good at expressing myself at the best of times, I'll leave it those who knew Cherith best and have already provided fitting tributes.

I am honoured to have known her, even for a short time. How I wish it could be longer.

So shocked, so desperately sorry for all who have lost her love, her friendship, the  light she spread all around her, her kindness, her immediate warmth to everyone and her  desire to SHARE joy.

Cherith, what can I write that is adequate, but here's some poetry for you and for Lee & your families, adapted  from lyrics by a Belfast  mate of mine,  Andy White :

We first met her outside the Park,
She wore red liverbird, red  flame
Singing  “Don’t be afraid of the dark”
As  red leaves fell gently in the rain

How could we know she would not tarry
and we would lose her  lovely  ways ?
her light has gone  & would it could brighten
Our futures, as it brightened many days.

So she’s  going back to Belfast city
Where the trees now stand tall and bare
For she has fallen into the arms of  forever.
Remembering the poetry  in her red-brown hair.

I wish we were with you  in  your home town,
As you shared ours, spreading love and pride
We would swim over the deepest ocean
Only  to have you right by our side.

Do not rest  until you’ve seized the day
Try to spread some joy along the way
For life is just a travelling circus
That stops off when it rains.

Life is just one great big travelling circus,
that stops off when it rains

The last time I  saw you  you were there at  Bob's wedding, celebrating love,
sharing  your friendship. I shared some great times with you & Lee, but not
enough, I  didn't talk enough. How can that be the last time ? Your spirit
will live on in our lives ...  Cherith Joy Watson you had  a
HEART AS BIG AS LIVERPOOL, a heart as big as Ireland itself.

I hope you don't mind me also slightly adapting  this song by Pete Wylie ...

When all the lights go out forever
Somewhere near the end of time
The noise will pass and the dust will settle
And you'll be on our minds

Now you won't find it hard to understand
Though it's so hard to explain
The who and what and how and why and wherefore
Your  joy  kept us sane
Your  joy  kept us sane

Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by water cool
Heart as big as the city
Heart as big as LIVERPOOL

Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by water cool
Heart as big as the city
Heart as big as LIVERPOOL

And we are not alone
And we are not alone
And we are not alone
And we are  not alone

You are not alone

Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by water cool
Heart as big as the city
Heart as big as LIVERPOOL

Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by the water cool
Heart as big as the city
LIVERPOOL

(And you are not alone)
And we are not alone!

I am honestly shocked by this news and the little bit I know Bob I think the word 'gutted' for him is an understatement.

I met Cherith the first time in 2001, yes the treble season, the night before the Roma match at one of the Anfield lounges in a tribute to Bob Paisley.  I think she was organising a 'Get Well Soon' card for Peter Evo who was at that moment in hospital.  We quickly introduced ourselves and then the following night we must have had a few bevies in the Park before the match.

Yes, Bob is right, she was bubbly, very friendly and always made sure that everyone is safe.

I remember after the Roma match, being only my second time in Liverpool then she asked me that if everything is alright.

I remember sending a couple of e-mails to her when I had technical problems with my e-season and Cherith was always so helpful and fast in her replies.

Maybe the only thing that she didn't like from me was when for some reason I used to call her 'Cher'!

Last time I saw Cherith was in Cardiff before the Man United match for the Worthington Cup Final.
It never crossed my mind that would be the last and this news by Bob is really a shock.

Cherith,

It was great to have met you.

Not sure that i can add anything, although this is more than i think i said to Bob K yesterday when he phoned me about the sad news.

Had a few great times with Cherith and Lee, and will remember her for the great person she was. My heart goes out to her family and also to Lee and his family.

Never a good time to lose someone, and she had a large extended family through LFC.

Going back to Worthy cup final last year brings back good memories, none more so than her argument with Lee, who was more worried about his cup final ticket being in her pocket, and then a great night out after the win.

Cherith, not sure if you ever knew how much people respected you.

Right which bastards eaten me Tapas?

I just thought I would share with you all that I have just received an e-mail from Cherith's brother, Jonny.

Obviously, they are finding things very difficult to take in right now, but wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words on here.  They take great comfort in knowing that Cherith touched so many lives.

Jonny also wrote the following, which is an old Irish ballad:

"So fare ye well, my own true love
when I get back united we will be
it's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
but my darling when I think of ye"

Incredibly sad news. I only met Cherith once when she sorted me out a ticket through the raotl forum. I dont want to go on as its not appropriate for someone who didnt know her but just to say if first impressions mean anything at all the Red community is all the poorer for the loss. Heart goes out to family and friends. RIP YNWA.

Although I have never met Cherith and I'm not a regular contributer to the site I would just like to offer my condolences to Cherith's family - I have known her brother as he is the secretary of the Bangor Northern Ireland Supporters Club which I am a member off and have been  for around 10 - 11 months. I can imagine how nice she is as her brother seems to be the same type of person and my thoughts are with David and his family at this sad time.

just a little update:  have been speaking to Dave - Cherith's brother off and on for most of the day.  what can you say to someone who has just had such a loss?  Dave is well-known himself amongst fans of irish league clubs - a decent, geniune, down to earth guy - must run in the family, and on a seperate site we use many have sent him messages.  i told there was another place where many had a heavy heart and if wanted could send him the link.  he requested i did and as such as been on here reading - he has plans to register and get on himself so touched is he.

i have no shame in saying i have tears running down my face at this moment

Dave has mentioned this site on the other one and as such many are paying a visit here, some have already commented on how touched they are that someone could touch so many

in sharing your heartache you are helping Dave and his brother, ultimately this will be get shared with the rest of the family

only saw her a few weeks ago. she'll be much missed - a good red and a truly lovely person.

rest in peace girl.

first 'met' her on raotl a good few years ago - always a real treasure.

penned this just now - not a fitting tribute but needed to get it off my chest...

Such sad news again,
Binds the forum in grief
A virtual community of red who care and aren’t afraid to shed a tear for those known and lost
Strangers in life but united in community as we cry once again for another life so tragically taken
Too young, too full of life
Wrested from our grasp cruelly and without a moments hesitation
The forum grieves, another loss, almost too much to bear but we struggle on drawing togther to find solace, seek answers and share tales of another full of life soul who rests in peace

Me thinks this might be slightly appropriate seeing as she has touched so many lives with her kindness, compassion and sheer zest for life. From what little I know of her, I get the feeling she touched far to many people for her to ever really leave us...

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamonds gilt on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry:
I am not there.
I did not die.

She was one hell of a girl Cherith I will certainly miss her warmth and genorosity. I only saw her a couple of weeks ago at the Blackburn game and we stood and had a chat, she was always great with our Matthew as well. I just keep seeing her smiling face don't think i ever saw her unhappy. I have so many happy memories of our friendship.

Beautiful sentiments from BK and so many others. I know Cherith and her loved ones will treasure each and very one of them.

God Bless you Cherith. I knew you just a tad yet even little chats like ours were enough to single you out as a lovely, warm and friendly soul who always had a kind word to say to everyone and who never seemed able to do enough for others. A truly rare and genuine sort in this day and age who will be dearly missed by an awful lot of folk from these forum fraternities. So cruel to think you've been taken from us.

Looking back on my own brief courtship with the matchday forum world I can now recall as clear as day those welcoming little pecks on the cheek with which you used to greet us all. For me they were always a highlight. Now I shall treasure them as a precious and abiding memory of our small yet cherished friendship and of what were happy if, even now, hazy days.

Finally my heartfelt sympathies to all Cherith's loved ones. May the fondness that so many so clearly felt for your dear Cherith help ease your hurting if only just a mite. She was a smashing lady of whom you must have been so very proud. Our thoughts are with you all on your unbearable loss.

First post on this site and it is unfortunately due to to very untimely death of the sister of my friend and fellow committe member of the Bangor Northern  Ireland Supporters Club David .

I  sadly never met Cherith , but  first met her brother Johnny about 20 years ago whenever he was at school with my brother. I wasn't to see him for 18 years until the formation of our supporters club  in Bangor 10 months ago .

David his brother and I decided to form an official supporters club and we have become good friends since then. Many a good nights crack we have enjoyed at  games , particularly away against Switzerland in August and the world cup game  in Cardiff in September .

David and two of our club  members stayed  with Cherith and Lee in August before flying from John Lennon airport to Zurich to meet up with the rest of the "  Green and White Army "  as we are referred to here.

David was due to stay in liverpool with his sister before our world cup qualifer at old trafford against England  on the 26th march 05,  I know this match will have lost  all relevance .

From what I have read on this post she was  a very special person , an obvious Watson family trait . I cannot say anything more than what has been said. Our sympathy extends to Lee,  the children and to the Watson family here in Northern Ireland .

The loss is immeasurable ,  the hurt unbearable . We grieve together from both sides of the Irish Sea

I've typed this 100 times and still can't say what I am wanting to.  So many thoughts are going through my mind, as you can imagine, it is a confusing time.

I am Cherith's youngest Brother, David.  My friend Richard (Irish Red) forwarded me this link whenever he had heard what had happened.  I knew she was friendly around Anfield, but I never realised she was this well thought of.

Some of the comments on this Board have been so helpful at this time of sorrow, I know I don't speak for myself when I thank you all for your lovely words and sentiments.  It really has helped every single one of us.

The poem posted by Nige stands out and with permission, I would love for it to be read at the funeral.

We first met her outside the Park,
She wore red liverbird, red  flame
Singing  “Don’t be afraid of the dark”
As  red leaves fell gently in the rain

How could we know she would not tarry
and we would lose her  lovely  ways ?
her light has gone  & would it could brighten
Our futures, as it brightened many days.

So she’s  going back to Belfast city
where the trees now stand tall and bare
For she has fallen into the arms of  forever
Remembering the poetry  in her red-brown hair.

I wish we were with you  in  your home town,
As you shared ours, spreading love and pride
We would swim over the deepest ocean
Only  to have you right by our side.

Do not rest  until you’ve seized the day
Try to spread some joy along the way
For life is just a travelling circus
That stops off when it rains.

Life is just one great big travelling circus,
that stops off when it rains

Just one piece I disagree with -

"I wish we were with you in your home town,
As you shared ours, spreading love and pride"

All you folks there who are in Liverpool are with her in her home town.

Hopefully my Parents get over soon to be with their daughter before bringing her back to Northern Ireland to rest.  It's comforting to know that many have been to see her, I can't wait to have that chance again.S

My thoughts are with Lee, Becky and Jordan at this moment too.  Anyone who has ever met the three will know what a loving, loyal family they are.  I'm as gutted for those who saw Cherith every day and will have that taken away from them, just as much as I am for my Mother, Father and Brother.

Should anyone there have pictures of Cherith, I would love to see them.  I had one on an old Computer of Cherith holding the UEFA Cup aloft in work and unfortunately this was lost after a virus destroyed the hard-drive.  Should anyone have any pictures of Cherith on their computer, I would be grateful if you could email them to me.

Should anyone want to send an email for any other reason, feel free.  Thanks to all of you again, your support at this time has been overwhelming.
