The ground is down Scot Lane on your right.
There is a large free car park at the stadium, behind the away end. As you may expect though, there is sometimes quite a delay in getting out of this car park after the game, especially of there has been a larger than normal crowd in attendance. I wouldnt park on the retail car park unless desperate cos they will slap a fine on you.
By TrainWigan's central railway stations (Wigan North Western & Wallgate stations) are a good 20 minute walk from the ground. So either take a taxi, or break up the journey with a few pub stops on the way! On exiting from either station head under the railway bridge and keep to the right. Follow the road (A49), making sure you stick to the right for around 10 minutes. You should pass the Seven Stars Hotel and then pass under a second railway bridge. The Robin Park complex and the JJB Stadium should then be visible. Turn down Robin Park Road and you are there.
Thoughts:Away fans are located in the North Stand at one end of the stadium. Up to 5,400 visiting supporters can be accommodated in this area.
see the pic below from the away end. The JJB is a modern stadium with decent facilties, although it is yet to be seen if they can comfortably cope with larger crowds this season on a consistant basis. The ground is located in a traffic blackspot, and its a total nightmare to get to it on a Saturday given that its next to a huge retail park, one of the north wests largest superstores [24 hr Asda], and Robin Park sports complex. This coupled with the fact that its on the outskirts of the Town Centre means its a pain to get there, especially on Saturdays. Its even worse trying to get away, especially if youve parked in one of the huge car parks right next to the ground. Usual script with these modern grounds - all nice and tidy, loads of spaces nearby, but the road network is shite! Expect a long wait.
Pub guide and extrasThere is a bar called Champions which is directly opposite the main entrance to the JJB stadium. There is also a pub called the Red Robin a couple of minutes from the ground opposite the Cinema Complex (which seems to be the main pub for away fans). Both bars welcome peaceful visiting supporters'. I'd swerve the Red Robin [wacky warehouse] as it gets proper rammed pre game as its the only real ale house in touching distance.
Maybe try 'The Orwell' at Wigan Pier before going to the stadium. It is an award winning pub with a good selection of traditional ales and regular guest beers. The food is also good. The pub is situated on the canal side and a short walk from the pub along the canal will take you to the ground. It is also only 5 minutes walk from both the train stations'. If you follow the A49 into Wigan from the motorway, you will pass the pub on your right.
Best bet is to get into the town centre, park there [or arrive on train from Liverpool] Bevvy in the numerous ale houses as you come out the train station. "Moon Under Water" and such likes on Market Street/Wallgate - you cant miss them all. Then its a 15-20 min walk to the ground, or £3 in a taxi.
