Still buzzing. Been a boss couple of days in and around the Liverpool country. So many emotions, espeically as the game was followed by the 27th anniversary of Hillsborough and the last memorial service to take place at Anfield.
Why would you choose to support any other team? Many of us had a 50/50 chance of becoming Evertonians, especially growing up in mixed households. Thank fuck for the 1974 FA Cup final! My memory is very hazy, but think that was game that made me a Red. First game I really remember sitting down and watching in its entirety.
Still can't quite get my head around the Dortmund game yet. Or my head is still in the clouds. Or both. Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang & (Rolls) Reus all scored at Anfield and yet, yet...we still managed to win and go through. We beat a team with that front three! Fuck! They are a really top team. They'll probably make it to the latter rounds of the CL next season. That's the measure of that victory on Thursday.
Not sure how we did it. But we did.
There's something intangible about Anfield under the lights. It goes beyond words. It's a force of nature. It just is. It's there. We all feel it but it defies a concrete definition. Once you've felt it, though, it never leaves you. You try and explain it later. Give it a name. Atmosphere, the commentators waffle...
"There's is a light that never goes out."
"We climbed the hill in our own way."
"You'll Never Walk Alone."
Think those banners/songs get as close to that ineffable feeling as it is possible to do so.
Also, even if there wasn't a CL qualification place at stake, I'd love to see the Reds lifting that big, beautiful trophy. Win the trophy, think about the benefits afterwards. As has been pointed out numerous times, there is no trophy for finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th. They give you that big fucker for winning the Uefa Cup though.
