Any channel that has the following swing of information is retarded.
AM: "SKY SOURCES SAY: Manchester United lodged a Ł20m bid for Samir Nasri last night so this transfer embargo is heating up! Manchester United aren't messing about with this one and have made a concrete offer to test the waters. Will Arsenal be inclined to accept it? Keep your eyes peeled to this channel, because you'll find out here first"
PM "SKY SOURCES TELL US: Arsenal are yet to receive a formal offer from Manchester United for Samir Nasri, so it looks like Manchester United and Alex Ferguson are playing a blinder and currently waiting it out so that the player can have crunch talks with Wenger first, which could reduce any price they have to pay if he submits a transfer request. Any result of that meeting will be made known to you here, FIRST, FAST, NOW"
And the bullshit "Transfer HD TV" changes from "Bid Made" to "Enquiry" for United, it's all rather pathetic. As a channel, the premise is right, and when I chat with my Evertonian mate we agree it must be rather hard to keep it interesting throughout a day, but it's just the willingness to run with info without verification to give the impression transfers deals are ebbing and flowing without bothering to check if there is an element of truth in it. Admittedly it's just as bad as all the newspapers going to print saying something is about to happen and it doesn't, I guess it's just you usually expect of a news channel, to provide, well, news.
Both of these stories, while not presented as fact, because it was only "Sky Sources" telling them, are both contradictory but put out there as "BREAKING NEWS" - when one of them had to be totally incorrect.
Edit: Infact when I think about it, the info is probably fed to them by people who are close to the deal and want to leverage popular opinion within the country one way or the other, or alert the player via the channel. And Sky Sports News is the bitch that just keeps bending over and taking it.
