I value charlie nicholas opinion. Although he's an Arsenal fan he's usually pretty fair & will call it how he sees it

I can't bring myself to watch it. When I visit my mate down south he has it on all the time in the background and I make him switch it off.

I don't see as much of a sinister undertone as others on here. In my mind, it's just full of sensationalist bollocks designed to glue idiots to their screens as they think an 'exclusive' is set to break. More viewers means more advertising revenue. Ultimately, this leads to more profit for Murdoch and co.

They say sex sells, so too does football transfer gossip.

SSN only covered Keys' & Gray's humiliation after the sacking. Not a whiff of it before hand, even though every other media outlet was bingeing with it. That was utterly shameful for any news channel, let alone one ostensibly dedicated to sport. Reminded me of Pravda. Even the BBC report on their public slappings (e.g the Greg Dyke business).

Just imagine, for once, they could have had a genuine "Sky source" "understand(ing)" the facts...

You hate everything about it EXCEPT for Natalie Sawyer?  She's a reason to hate it, the fuckin moose!

But of course there are other reasons all of which have probably been mentioned already  and are in all likelihood entirely justified!

It gets turned on of a morning before work, but if that annoying fooking whooper Jim White is on, it gets turned off. Is there really any need for him to bellow instead of talking normally, "SKY SPORTS UNDERSTANDS, YES UNDERSTANDS, THAT NANI, YES THATS NANI, WAS SEEN GOING INTO GREGGS THE BAKERS IN PICCADILLY STATION, POSSIBLY FOR A PASTY AND CAN OF TANGO.....WELL WHAT ABOUT THAT THEN EH?"  :no

Another thing that riles me is that load of shite on a Sunday morning, 'Sunday Supplement', a table full of journo's eating toast and drinking tea whilst wanking over Chelsea!

Some of the conversation that comes up during sunday supplement is quite interesting to be fair. It's the same as any show though isn't it? Sometimes you'll get people with an opinion worth listening to & other times you'll get a table full of wankers. Take it as it comes.

Yeah, she's clearly been beaten with the ugly stick ... er? You have to understand, I'm unbleivably shallow and a tight top and cleavage is all it takes.

They cut to White Hart Lane yesterday, about Modric, and prefaced it with 'HUGE developments in the Modric saga ... lets get the latest news' and all it was was that he was at White Hart Lane talking to Levy. THEN, this morning, they had a report with a 'Modric Timeline!' about the 'events' of yesterday. The fucking plebs.

Any channel that has the following swing of information is retarded.

AM: "SKY SOURCES SAY: Manchester United lodged a Ł20m bid for Samir Nasri last night so this transfer embargo is heating up! Manchester United aren't messing about with this one and have made a concrete offer to test the waters. Will Arsenal be inclined to accept it? Keep your eyes peeled to this channel, because you'll find out here first"

PM "SKY SOURCES TELL US: Arsenal are yet to receive a formal offer from Manchester United for Samir Nasri, so it looks like Manchester United and Alex Ferguson are playing a blinder and currently waiting it out so that the player can have crunch talks with Wenger first, which could reduce any price they have to pay if he submits a transfer request. Any result of that meeting will be made known to you here, FIRST, FAST, NOW"

And the bullshit "Transfer HD TV" changes from "Bid Made" to "Enquiry" for United, it's all rather pathetic. As a channel, the premise is right, and when I chat with my Evertonian mate we agree it must be rather hard to keep it interesting throughout a day, but it's just the willingness to run with info without verification to give the impression transfers deals are ebbing and flowing without bothering to check if there is an element of truth in it. Admittedly it's just as bad as all the newspapers going to print saying something is about to happen and it doesn't, I guess it's just you usually expect of a news channel, to provide, well, news.

Both of these stories, while not presented as fact, because it was only "Sky Sources" telling them, are both contradictory but put out there as "BREAKING NEWS" - when one of them had to be totally incorrect.

Edit: Infact when I think about it, the info is probably fed to them by people who are close to the deal and want to leverage popular opinion within the country one way or the other, or alert the player via the channel. And Sky Sports News is the bitch that just keeps bending over and taking it.

I think anything that publicises anything 'helps' mate.

If a referee sees a penalty that should have gone to Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok and they don't give it then no one cares. It is barely mentioned and it is soon forgotten.

If a referee sees a penalty for one of the Sky favoured clubs denied then they bang on about it. It becomes public domain. It is moved into the collective conciousness. Other media publications looking around for news mention it. Football fans see it and mention it. Football forums mention it. The official gets slandered and slagged off and hassled. This leads to future decisions being altered.

Influence is influence. Ferguson doesn't have to do anything because he has Sky doing it for him.

Same with the coverage of Carra's tackle on Nani. It was covered by Sky to the point of hysteria. This prompted fans to react. Websites to go into meltdown and other media sources to get on their soapboxes. This then led to the belief in the public domain that 'Manchester United are hard done to' and 'Liverpool get all the decisions'.

The latest shite from the Manchester United chairman (Or whatever he is) is just another way of getting this put into the public domain and collective conciousness. Decisions which are high profile are enacted differently from decisions which are low profile. Some referees seem to want a quiet life. Some want to avoid the limelight. Some make a point of being right up there and bloody minded.

But Influence is influence. Anything that makes any official at any point think about any decision differently than any other decision is wrong.

This is close to the truth in my opinion.

It's so much in tune with the shite the NoTW spit out it's untrue. Murdoch has made billions on giving the public what they want. Graphic, dramatised, immoral and personal info on people. The general public (as a whole - certainly not me) wish to read this dross. They want to hear this. That's why it sells.

SLYSports is no different. The majority of people, 20 years ago, wanted Liverpool dethroned and bad mouthed purely because of their success. They looked at United as the media's darling and a potential cash cow through the air Disaster and the catchment area.

That is why United are talked up to the hilt. Their fans are more plentiful and, through numbers, will buy more squarials.

Why the good looking lasses on SSN? Because no one wants to watch a Vanessa Phelps double spouting out news on transfers when Charlotte Jackson can? I know which I'd prefer! But seriously, I know Charlotte is a red and all that but is she that clued up on sport or is she just a good looking lass who reads a script to attract viewers?

It's all about what the majority want to see. I'm not sexist in the slightest. Just been mildly dubious for the last two decades.

SSN has always fucking annoyed me.  Presenters, style of presentation you name it.  Even Soccer Saturday has become a fucking 5 hour screamathon,  so can't be arsed with that.

What has seriously got right up my ring piece over the past few weeks, has been their special reporting from Wimbledon, but most of all, it's been Sky's coverage leading up to the British GP this week.  I don't know, but I get the feeling they're trying to seriously tap into that market with their quite OTT coverage of events they haven't got.  At one time, if Sky weren't covering it, they'd practically ignore it news wise, as if it wasn't even going on.

It wouldn't surprise me if they managed to get total control of BSkyB, that they would try and get all the major sporting events.  I know some events are protected, but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to find a way around it.  Of course, that may be more difficult under the current atmosphere.

Of course, a lot of the premier sporting are shown on the BBC at present, and with Sky's hatred of it, and everything it stands for, they'd love to get them.

"There's not one club in Europe with an anthem like You'll Never Walk Alone. There's not one club in the world so united with the fans. I sat there watching the Liverpool fans and they sent shivers down my spine. A mass of 40,000 people became one force behind their team ... For that I admire Liverpool more than anything" Johan Cryuff
