just watched the Torres goal again - love the way the Marseilles number 4 sticks his hand in the air as Torres goes past him - like he's off side or something!! ;D

With another week of live football action ahead. TV and Radio's most easily confused commentator is ready to go again. here's a cut out and keep guide to who David is actually talking about.

Andy Townsand, Steve Rider, Jamie Rednapp, Ray Wilkinson and Richard Keys taught me  tonight was that Rafa is clueless manger for leaving Torres on the bench against the 8-0 Beşiktaş and 4-0 Toulouse games.

If I was Gerrard I would have a word with Jamie over some of comments and tell him to button it, the shit about Rafa by the Ex-Red and Sky's Gorilla creature Keys wanting to be "The Man" was appalling.

Because Crouch is a better player

I've not seen anything since they've been here to suggest that is true.

Regardless of that argument however, Kuyt is clearly the better partner for Torres, so he wins by default.

Fabio Aurelio - contributed the sum total of his initials. Ta. Still, at least you didn't get injured eh.

That's bollocks mate - he played that great long ball for Babel's goal!!!

Never boring your posts though - fair comment about Yossi.

Shame Porto won cos it means we're up against the big guns in the knock outs.

There isn't a team in Europe who will want to draw us. Each and every team in that draw could beat us, and we can beat each and every one of them. They know that, we know that.

Andy Townsand, Steve Rider, Jamie Rednapp, Ray Wilkinson and Richard Keys taught me  tonight was that Rafa is clueless manger for leaving Torres on the bench against the 8-0 Beşiktaş and 4-0 Toulouse games.

One word: mute button. Or take a shit, or a walk or whatever. OK that was more than one but dear god, why does everyone pour over the words from these people? I mean I'd rather listen to my mother.

Battered them silly. Torres just gets better and better and Kewell once again put in a fine performance.

Shame Porto won cos it means we're up against the big guns in the knock outs.
True but then I always fancy us against the other big teams in Europe since Rafa took over. Besides.. we have been to two finals in three years, you can bet every single one of those group winners will be hoping they don't get drawn against us.

Thought Dirk was class tonight. Might not have any pace but his awareness and decision-making were top drawer. My heart skipped a beat when Sami clattered into Masch near the end..

There'll be a lot of Group Winners hoping they don't get us.

Gillete has said fuck all and cancelled his interview with Talkshite.

Excellent news this.
Gillette seems to be starting to understand what being a Liverpool FC Director is all about.
Good news that NO-ONE, the directors, managers and playing staff are feeding the media shite machine (Except Nando).

Any mention of the dispute whatsoever and dodging all questions. After the first few days of the whole saga Rafa has said nothing. Gillete has said fuck all and cancelled his interview with Talkshite. Hicks has pretty much said nothing. Parry nothing. Foster barely even getting a mention by the rags.

I suppose it would've been nice to see Gerrard and Carra publically BACKING the manager but it wouldn't surprise me if someone has had a word in the ears of Stevie and Carra to dodge questions.

Fantastic performance!

We had to win and we had killed the game after 11 minutes. Torres' goal was world class. He made it look so simple. Loved his little touch with the outside of his foot before he passed it into the net. Brilliant control.

But although we scored four, perhaps the most impressive thing was our defence. I don't think Reina made a single save. They just couldn't find a way through. Very impressive. Hope everyone is fit, because it's time to do the Mancs. If we play like we did tonight, they won't be able to touch us either.

My guess for the next round - we'll get AC Milan.

Can't believe how many of you predicted a 3-0 win; FFS have some faith will yiz.

Amazing the way everyone plays shit against us - lucky bastards aren't we.

Pleat: It was all down to who scored first and it never looked like it was going to be OM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

The whole team were brilliant, especially all of them.

Torres is almost the finished article. The only shortcoming he has, seems to be his inability to garnish his goals with several dozen pointless stepovers. He will need to overcome this if he is to be taken seriously.

Bring on MU, with our luck I bet they'll play shit too.

I really like Pleat. He knows his stuff and makes some insightful comments during the game. He also recognises the work rate and tactical aspects of a player's performance and highlights them properly. He doesn't just use the microphone as an opportunity to spout crap - he knows what he's talking about.

All the lads were obviously brilliant, but special mention to Yossi for me, never stopped working his bollocks off all game, and considering he's supposed to be a flair player this is fantastic to see.

Agree with you there!  Broke up play and defended like a tiger! the whole team did. They never let up not even after the third goal.

My post match thoughts.

Torres is class.

Babel is a super-sub. Put him on in the last 10 minutes of every game - he guarantees you a goal.

The rest of the team is class. Kewell is coming back to form, class act, Gerrard is the nuts, the defense is mean.

However, Kuyt is terrible. Every time i see him play, i think, "what does Rafa see in him?". I don't want to bang on about his limitations as a player after such a great night, but the guy is woeful. We need to find an effective partner for Torres, because we don't have one. Crouch is immense, and in a 4-3-3, he's the perfect one to spear head the attack, helped by two of either Kewell, Benayoun, Babel or Pennant, but it's clear him and Torres isn't working at as a duo.

Maybe i'm just moronic, in fact, i know i am, but for me, Kuyt offers very little. If we can improve on him in January, with an Anelka for example, I can actually see us doing big things this year.

I usually don't post in the post match threads, but fuck - Torres is on fire, Gerrard is on fire. JAR had a good game, as had all the team, actually, better than good!  :)

This may be the wrong thread, but I can't be bothered to post in the Momo one; but I really think the team looks so much more balanced when Momo's not there (depends on other factors, too of course, but to me he is not needed at this point, rather to the contrary to be honest). Wish he could have made it, although personally I never rated him that high, but would have been glad to be proven wrong. However, at the moment it just doesn't look like he's good enough for this team imho.

Scrambled thoughts: I fucking love our central defense, and think Sami HAS to stay. I'm looking forward to having Agger back, but I really would like us to hold on to Sami. Made up for Kuyt that he scored, Babel has to be played up front. Everyone worked hard and stayed focus(s)ed, so basically I'm happy with everyone on the pitch tonight (okay, Pepe a bit on the lazy side again).

Haha - Beckenbauer on German telly just said when asked about Liverpool's late surge to end up in second place in the group and what's to come now, he wouldn't put anything past the Reds ever, that we made two finals in the past three years and are always capable of being there again. Good boy. Also just quoted Didi Hamann as saying Rafa is the best manager he's ever worked with and then confirmed that he is one the best. Thankfully we don't get the UK post match shite here, and during the game got the ITV commentary complete with lots of Benanoon again.  ::)

I just hope that after next week there won't be a big black hole sucking in all this happiness in case G&H haven't yet got their brains around as to who should be (i.e. stay) LFC manager......

Oh, and please please Harry, stay fit! PLEASE! I've always loved the guy as a player, and it is so good to see him play again, and play like that. On the "I want your baby front" he'd be just as welcome by me as Torres and Gerrard.  :lickin

Pleat: It was all down to who scored first and it never looked like it was going to be OM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

They didn't even manage a shot on target (I can't think of one). Very much thanks to our great defending.

spot on.
I really like Pleat. He knows his stuff and makes some insightful comments during the game. He also recognises the work rate and tactical aspects of a player's performance and highlights them properly. He doesn't just use the microphone has an opportunity to spout crap - he knows what he's talking about.

I can forgive him the odd mispronounced name.

Have you taken your tongue out of your cheek yet?

Every single Liverpool player today was fantastic :)
MOTM for me either Kewell or Torres.

Had a bit of a panic before the game started because STV had changed it to the Chelsea game >:(
Think i'll write them an angry email ;D
Thankfully I had ITV London...

Next round...I'm gonna guess Real Madrid.
