Which airport are people flying into, Otopeni or Baneasa? Which is more accessable to the ground and city?

Applying for tickets with no previous aways this season on the off chance.

Got my fingers crossed I get lucky and get sorted a pair. What do people reckon me chances are?

Baneasa looks like an old communist bus stop :)  But it's right at the edge of the city to the north. There isn't only the bus, there are other trams, buses, cheap taxis... basically as soon as you step out of the airport you're in the city.

With Otopeni it's a different story. It's the main airport, but it's like 15 miles north, with only a bus to connect it to the city (there used to be a train as well but I'm not sure if it runs anymore). Plus the cabs are double the price, there's a company that has an exclusive deal with the airport and they are twice the price as all others.

How frequent are the buses between the city and the airport?

Which taxis are "safe" to take from the airport? How much should they be (to Piata Unirii)?
Also, how much is a taxi from Piata Unirii to the Ghencea?

echoing pata's comments chris ;)

i'm going from Baneasa airport to a hotel near the Piata Universitatii underground station been quoted £26 return on a shared taxi, 15 euros one way with another, i know the bus will be cheaper but coming home i've got an early flight and the buses aren't running then.

my plan is to get the bus 783 to downtown and then a taxi or shared shutle thing on the way back to the airport, at the moment i've got just a small bag so aint fussed either way but may end up taking a small case as well as i reckon i'm going to need more clothes ;D

That's even under 2 quid return and the stop is 2 minutes from our flat. Sound. The distance looks to be around 6-7 miles, so should be 30 mins tops.

i've read it should only take ten minutes but taking account of traffic they say it could be 30, not far from my place that bus either, think i jump off the second to last stop and get run over.

Also, how much is a taxi from Piata Unirii to the Ghencea?

The buses are 3.5 lei I think (7 lei for the return trip), and they take around half an hour, depending on traffic.
At Otopeni there are only taxis from a company called Fly Taxi, they have an exclusive deal with the airport, but they're expensive (3.5 lei / km - while most other companies are 1.2-1.6 lei / km). So with Fly Taxi, you should pay around 70-80 lei to downtown. Also - always make sure the meter is running. Even if it's a big company, they won't have any issues trying to rip off foreigners.
From Piata Unirii you can find tons of normal priced taxis, a trip to Ghencea should be around 15 lei (~3 GBP). Make sure the price displayed on the taxi is 1.2-1.6 lei / km, anything more expensive is a rip-off.

Yeah, I looked at the buses to Ghencea and the only suitable one seems to be 122 and that doesn't look like it goes from Piata Unirii, so taxi it is.

Jonne, we're staying at

Hotel Trianon
Address    Cobalcescu Grigore 9
Bucharest , 010191
Romania

great reviews, centrally located and not too expensive.  Booked on http://www.booking.com

http://www.bordellos.ro/  might be worth a visit......very near Piata Unirii and apparently,  Great food: a convincing English breakfast by day, tapas by night; the ribs are just about the best in Bucharest. You can’t miss it: just look for the ‘tarts’ in their underwear beckoning you in.

Bordellos is actually an OK pub. Never eaten there, but for a drinking night with friends, it's an ok place to go to. However, it's average in terms of looks, despite the "tarts" :)  I would still choose The Harp, which is like 5 minutes away, but Bordellos is cheaper and with more beers on the menu.

Thanks for that Chris, looks like Piata Unirii has a fair few pubs / bars on the streets around it? What are the local bars like like, you know the more Rumanian type bars and are there many of those around Piata Unirii?

We guessed as much when we looked at the website last night and it said a room has just been booked from Finland.

We arrive Wednesday about 9ish in the evening after spending a day in Rome ...  Back home Saturday

I've got fuck all to do, just looking at me booking. I'm flying into OTP airport and staying in an apartment near the calea calarasior square.

What's the dance on that place Chris... are there plenty of pubs around there, is it far from the airport, that sort of thing?

Anyone else staying in that area?
