Pool putting the pressure on, utd just hacking it away.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Corner headed downwards at the far post by Michael Burns, might have done better.went wide.

Yes it is Liverpools fault that the Mancs have many diving cheating c*nts.
No it is not but they will come up against that throughout their career and sadly many refs fall for that.  They have to be able to deal with it and try and work against it.  They missed some chance to put the game away and made some defensive errors.  They still have a second leg and have the ability to beat them there.

They just have to look at this game and learn.  Hopefully they can deal with any tricks in the next leg.

Threlfall latches onto the corner but his left foot volley goes over.

Threfall chips it over from the corner.

Clatterburg smiles broadly, rubs his hands with glee and gives a thumbs up to the Manchester United bench

Game over.

1-2.

Good effort by our lads.
It'll be tough for them to win the cup now but it's not over yet.

As for Clattenburg, I normally find him to be a decent ref.  I didn't have video of the game but from the audio from e-season Hunter and Fairclough did not make it out to be poor ref decision but more down to defensive slips.

It was a stonewall penalty. Had that happened the other way, and it not been given, we'd be gutted. Definite penalty for me - he didn't get the ball and took the man. Was probably lucky to stay on the field.

I think Heighway will be disappointed about the second half performance.

Everyone ran their nads off in the first half, we looked tired in the second half and the own goal seemed to completely stun the players. They stopped passing, simple as that.

Impressed with the midfield in the first half, particularly Putteril. And Lindfield is a handful.

The harsh reality is that it's very unlikely any of them will become established Liverpool players, although you never know. But I do hope a handful can make decent livings out of the game. I feel sorry for them because I'm sure losing to United at Anfield is a gutting feeling at any level.

The left back and left winger were very impressive.

Right back didn't get forward enough.

Lindfield looked quality.

Goalkeeper didn't claim the ball enough and had a very poor kick.

Alright atmosphere all things considered.

But the amount of clapping during YNWA was cringeworthy, infront of the mancs aswel, FFS.

Disagee about their futures. Every chance the likes of Lindfield, Putterill, Ryan, Spearing, Threlfall, could make it.
Of course they won't all make it at Anfield but I would be very disappointed if one or two of that team do not
beceome senior squad members in the next two seasons or so.
They have shown a lot of promise this year.
They're in good hands under Heighway, would be fantastic if they turn over the mancs at theirs
but that won't be easy.

central defence was the problem for me. don't get me wrong, threlfall and spearing are great lads, probably as good as we've got, but they're not really central defenders and both goals were gifted by them. looking at the highlights from previous rounds, we struggled a lot from set pieces and the lack of height and dominance from these positions. we were blessed last year with hobbs, antwi and roque but had no-one really to replace them this year.

will be very difficult in the second leg now, but we've got nothing to lose (except the cup of course  ;) ) and with little xabi back we might have a chance. still if it's a choice between the kid's cup and the big one....

I heard really good things about there lad Brandy, poor performance i thought.

There goalkeeper was a right smarmy c*nt aswell.

Bit gutted after such a great first half performance we lost.

You really do notice that touch of class compared to those players though, the first touch of some of the lads tonight was woeful!

I'm sure one or two may be able to push into the first team squad at some stage - but I cannot envisage any of them becoming established players here, Phil. What I mean is, I do not see another Owen, Fowler, McManaman, Gerrard or Carragher out there. Maybe there is another David Thompson, Dominic Matteo or Stephen Warnock - we'll see.

Can't fault the work rate and the togetherness of the team though. Heighway has often produced very good youth teams and installs a good mentality amongst the players. One thing is for sure, regardless of the quality of the players produced, they will be better for the experience at the academy and it will be a massive benefit to them in their careers, should they make it elsewhere.
