Not too fussed with Nunez being on the bench when he would only be out wide anyway. We seem pretty disconnected when he plays.

Yeah he definitely needs a go down the middle. Wasted out wide.

Diaz Gakpo and Salah seems to be the preferred 3 I reckon for next season. Will be interesting to see how Nunez deals with not being first choice.

Could be carrying a knock.

Equally there was a report in the papers this week about Liverpool in general, where it mentioned that Nunez has struggled with the pressing aspects of the No9 role. Additionally Klopp has praised Gakpo’s defensive contributions in that role.

I think when you’ve  lost 8 out of 15 away league games and conceded 24 in the process (more than Southampton have away from home) then having a No9 who wants to play on the shoulder of the last defender but can’t press effectively isn’t potentially a primary concern. Think the aim might be to exploit Leeds on the break with Nunez’s pace as the game becomes stretched.

Why sign him then? He’s never been the best of pressers so the fact It’s been reported numerous times that it was klopp and Ljinders who pushed for the signing is utterly strange since we knew what we were getting with him. Explains why he’s been shunned out wide where he doesn’t need to press as much and ends up playing as a left wing back.

Their goalie's confidence is shot. He'll make at least one howler tonight.

Jota brace coming up as well.

Just curious but is Melo injured. I can’t se anything that states he is injured or have they just decided he is not now part of the match day squad now players are back from injury. Personally I would never him play for LFC again after smiling with pep.

It’s just the type of striker he is, he tracks back when he’s pushed out wide but doesn’t press really. We should have him up top and just have him play on the last defender. That’s his game and hopefully in a proper functioning team next year, the press will just happen naturally.

He's such a weird one. Brilliant with his feet, really not good with his hands. Incredibly weak on crosses. Plays well maybe three times a year (and usually at least one against us)

From the sounds of it the midfield drop off this season has caught the staff out and the lack of legs in there has led us to want a more pressing centre forward in Gakpo to try and compensate.

Nunez was flying until the Newcastle injury though but has looked off the pace since and in and out the side.

I like him but he didn’t strike me a Liverpool forward.

Nunez is not starting because he contributes very little to our build up play. For all the "chaos" he makes, our midfield and wide men still have to create chance for him to feed on (or waste).

We haven't been doing that for a while. And our system has always been with 3 technically-sound men up front, who can create for themselves. He can't do that at the moment. Klopp's probably questioning the scouting report.

Well if that's the case we need another striker because other than Salah and Diaz none of our forwards can particularly create much for themselves - Jota looks ropey since coming back from injury, Nunez needs people to service him to be effective, and Gakpo lives and dies by the flow of the team (if they are going slow he won't do anything, if they are picking up and being active then he works alright)

Every goalscoring striker needs teammates service though? Nunez was very good before the World Cup and has been pushed wide since.

I agree, but the argument being he doesn't work hard enough at other aspects of the game. Nunez was very good with that service but we've moved instead for Jota and Gakpo to be more pressing forwards, except they haven't particularly pressed well, and haven't been that great in attack either. Gakpo has also been somewhat passive, in that he will be good when you play well but won't change a game either if we are playing poorly.

If we aren't going to work with Nunez we need better than what else we have, or they need to get better than they are right now (which they certainly could because Gakpo is young and Jota is hopefully coming up to speed)

I think at the start of the season the plan was to play a proper centre forward, Nunez, with a proper winger in the form of Diaz. Diaz got injured and the midfield went off. Now as a result Jota and Gakpo are the best options until we can regroup next season.

Oh, Jota hasn't become shit all of a sudden. We have a struggling team.

I hope, and do believe this actually, but there is a worry to be had after such a significant injury, with other long term injuries not that long ago either, that he may have lost a little bit. It does happen.

I do believe he will get back up to speed but there is a legitimate concern, it's not out the realms of possibility the injury has effected him

Looking at the teams, it's hard to imagine we don't win this comfortably. Although, looking how we've played this season, we'll probably lose 1-0 after it bounces in off someone's arse.

Smash these, lads. Wherever we end up finishing, it would be great to finish this season with a strong run.

Honestly, just want to see some effort and interest from start to finish. Want to see them actually try to run, work hard and press. Its the lack of effort and running thats been the most annoying for me. I bet if they do that part then wins will start coming as well.

Not really about who plays and more about who turns up. If we turn up confident in our own game and have the patience to stick with it, we'll win easy. If we are unsure of ourselves we'll get turned over.
