Do they honestly think it's going to improve?
There's plenty of room for improvement, as I pointed out above. I believe that the points from Wolves (which I agree with) were the opening salvo in a negotiation for better standards and accountability.

It's a sunk cost fallacy at this point until PGMOL is destroyed in its current form.
Whereas this is fucking realistic.

They should try reading the room and factor in the fans for once.
Which fans? As this thread has demonstrated over the last few pages there's no consensus amongst the fans.

Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Welcome to Liverpool Thiago Alcantara
« Last post by Fromola on Today at 06:54:30 am »
Our 2018-20 team had attacking threats almost all over the pitch - an electric front three, two full-backs who broke assist records and redefined established wisdom about what could be done from that position, ball-playing centre backs who held a very high line. The only "conservative" part of our team was our "functional" midfield. 8 stars, 3 water carriers, to put it very simply and reductively. With that balance and formula, we would have reached a points total record that would have stood forever if we had needed to in 19/20. We reached a level that would have been hard to improve or even maintain no matter what we did transfer-wise after that.

With the introduction of Thiago, I'm sure in an effort to not stand still, we arguably attempted to shift that balance to 9 stars, 2 water carriers - again putting it reductively. I never got why it was supposed to be obvious that that would make us better as a team just because he was undeniably a better individual midfield player than those we already had, rather than upset that balance. Still don't think the answer to that is obvious - great player who was a big part of a fantastic season, but a debatable and interesting question whether signing him was the best move for what our team needed overall IMO. RAWK didn't really have that discussion in terms of team balance IMO, you were just supposed to rate Thiago (which everyone did really, some just had caveats).

It was a bit like when Ferguson signed Veron, they were trying to mix things up a bit but he was the wrong fit for the league and they already had Scholes.

The midfield could be a bit pedestrian but they worked well as a 3. Issue was the players who were supposed to come in and offer something different didn't work out (Keita/Ox). Had one or both have those worked out and stayed fit then I doubt we sign Thiago.

Fuck me, why are you slagging off our club? Calling our people "morons" and fuckwits". If it were up to you we would have "solved" our DM issues last summer with Amrabat.

You've taken one sentence and used it to launch an attack at our club. LFC are not the problem. We may not be in favour of scrapping VAR, we may be in favour of improving VAR. Scrap VAR and we'll get fucked over even more.

1. We can start by binning off "clear and obvious error". We have situations now where VAR won't intervene if the ref gives a penalty. And won't intervene if he doesn't. What a nonsense.

2. State clearly that the purpose of VAR is to get decisions right. We don't care whose feelings get hurt if they called to the monitor. If a player gets studs in his chest whilst upright in the penalty area, there's no mitigation, it's a penalty.

3. Spend the summer learning to communicate clearly with unambiguous language. And no more of this "Olly" and "mate" stuff. At least try and sound professional

Laughable that the morons at the club are the first club (and only one so far) to brief that they're backing VAR.
<snip>
Laughable that we're doing their bidding for them after this season.

The Boozer / Re: Holidays 2024 - What's your plans?
« Last post by CraigDS on Today at 06:30:00 am »
Just about to fly to Rome, weirdly my first time there despite doing a lot of other places in Italy. Doing 4 days there, train to Florence for a few days, then getting a car to drive to Tuscany for a friends wedding for 4 days. Then up to Bologna for a few days and flying back from there.

We probably look a bit like that during the dark years of the American scum bags, Hodgson and other years of toil.  Should we also be under investigation?  Naturally we all know how it came to be, but by arguing that a sudden improvement in league position is grounds for suspicion, means you also have to argue that it would be impossible for a team to do this without cheating, which some clubs have done - hint hint nudge nudge...US.

On this basis alone someone should investigate how the fuck Leicester won a league title.

Man City were shite for decades before 2000 as well. It's not a few years of being bad, followed by a few years of being good. They were by and large awful from the 1970s up until they became a petro state project.

We were an absolutely massive club since the 1960s, so the down periods like Hodgson/H&G are the aberration, not the times when we're decent.

Leicester was a complete one-off, not 12 years of domination from absolutely nothing.

Hang on some people think decisions will improve without VAR  :lmao

The only real argument for scrapping VAR is less interruptions to the flow of the game.
