Name your tune for a new LFC album
« on: January 17, 2006, 03:57:07 pm »
Liverpool FC are putting together an official club CD and we'd like your help in deciding what songs are included on the album.

All tracks will be brand new recordings of songs and chants that capture the passion and musical heritage of the club, and the emotive sound that is so unique to Anfield and The Kop.

The club are inviting the fans themselves to nominate their favourites. Contemporary production teams will then be specifically chosen to arrange, record and produce these for the album.

Among these production teams will be established music industry producers and artists, who are known fans, as well as new production teams who are able to capture the emotion.

The theme of the album will be 'by the fans for the fans'. Consequently, the club will be recording The Kop and the entire crowd at the Arsenal match on 14 February. The songs and chants that the crowd sings during the match will then create the 'sound-bed' for the album tracks. So for the first time since 'Kop Choir' in the early 1970s, the fans will become recording artists.

All fans are now invited to nominate their favourite Reds' songs and chants by emailing editor@liverpoolfc.tv

The criteria should be those that fans would like to hear newly recorded - to capture the passion, humour, and heritage of the club, and the massive renewed wave of excitement and optimism around Rafa's boys.

So I presume our details will be taken in order to sort out royalties etc or will this album by the fans be produced without the actual artists being paid a penny?  ;)

At least a HJC donation.

interesting idea, but if they're just gonna record on one night, does that mean they're gonna hand out like a song sheet to the crowd so they sing the right ones?

I hope they capture that real Anfield atmosphere: the clapping before YNWA is finished, the way PST tails off to nothing as half the crowd realise they don't know the rest of the words, the exciting new "easy, easy" and "who are ya" chants, the sound of the footsteps on the stairs as thousands leave early and the murmer of thousands of fans telling their mates where they are on their mobile phones all through the game.

Well, that's bollocks for a start. We have an old album called (I think) the Kop Choir that does exactly what they're suggesting here.

Of course, if by "recording artists" they mean you're going to get mechanical royalties ...

Why don't they just go in the Albert and record there for about 2 hours before kick off as well.

On a serious note why has the standard of songs/singing dropped so dramatically recently and what can we do to halt our descent into just another set of fans?

There are actually recordings of 'Scouser Tommy' and 'Fields Of Anfield Road' but I don't have the facilities to download, nor can be arsed getting them.  If someone has them handy however, and they have a spare second, send the links, PURELY for the readers of this post to know what i'm on about. (please)

Personally, I think MY chant of 'Peter Crooouuch da-da-da-da-daaa' to Dangermouse should go on (c)  I want royalties though!  Actually, I'll get stung by the original composers of Dangermouse, so I'll let that one go.

Every other Saturday has got to be in there somewhere. And 'It happened down at Goodison...' to the tune of the Laughing Policeman.

Also a medly of 'He shot, he cum, all over Tina's bum, Peter Shilton', 'He's fat, he's shit, he's never fucking fit, Peter Reid' type chant.

The Road End. UNITED. Will never be defeated.

Weeeeeee all hate Mancs and Mancs and Mancs and Mancs.

I love the way we get asked for input on something like this, and only two people give serious answers.

I hope the lad who started it all can see through the sarcasm.

Oh, and surely they'd be better recording at a European night ?

Thing is though, can anybody imagine fans now singing a classic song like Every Other Saturday without speeding it up to 350bpm or introducing some Walrus-like clapping. A lot of people struggle with the Fields of Anfield Road.

Away from the kop doing the singing, I'd like to see a production team getting a grip of "In my Life", but take out the Connery mumblings and replace them with some of Shankly's famous little ditties that must be in someones archives.

OK, at least I know why they chose Arsenal now.

They seriously would be better taking a tape recorder either into the Albert, OR, some bars around Lisbon.
