Just thought I'd mention there is 45 points separating the top 6 in the fantasy competition.

Yep, it's getting tight at the top.

Although i see we've slipped down the mini league of leagues to 5th.

Cav and Petacchi out for Schleck and Conty this morning. Thor still in at the mo, see if he can cling to yellow for another day or two.  Will soon be replaced by Cadel I think though.  Anyone got any tips for a mid-priced GC contender and a 4m or less climber?

So two Cat 4s followed by a Cat 2 and finishes on top of a Cat 3. Surely Thor can't do it again? I mean I wrote him off a few days ago on the hill top finish but surely not? ???

Ends with 1.5km at 7.6%. Hopefully this isn't another one of those stages where Andy loses 10s as the final kick is so short. Seems to prefer the proper big, long climbs.
And Thor makes me eat my words again. Terrific stuff from him!

The Schlecks looked good. Were only concerned about Contador and stuck to him nicely at the end there.

I laughed when Contador attacked, Andy stuck on his wheel and then when Evans and Cunego attacked, Andy just looked at them like they were a couple of nobodies! ;D It's clear that Contador is the only rider he's bothered about.

Can't figure this out lads - need some help. :(

The team classification is the total time of the top 3 riders in each team, right?

According to letour.fr, the team standings are:

Standing        Team                          Time             Gaps
1.           TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO    98h 30' 04"
2.           TEAM LEOPARD-TREK            98h 30' 08"     + 00' 04"

But here's the times for those teams' top 3 riders:

Standing       Rider                Rider number bib       Team                                     Time                  Gaps
1.          HUSHOVD Thor                51                             TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO   33h 06' 28"
3.          SCHLECK Frank               18                             TEAM LEOPARD-TREK          33h 06' 32"    + 00' 04"
5.          FUGLSANG Jakob             13                             TEAM LEOPARD-TREK          33h 06' 40"    + 00' 12"
6.          SCHLECK Andy                11                             TEAM LEOPARD-TREK          33h 06' 40"    + 00' 12"
9.          MILLAR David                   56                             TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO   33h 06' 47"    + 00' 19"
21.        DANIELSON Tom              52                             TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO   33h 08' 25"    + 01' 57"

Now 33h 06' 28" (Hushovd) + 33h 06' 47" (Millar) + 33h 08' 25" (Danielson) = 99h 21' 40" rather than the quoted 98h 30' 04"

And 33h 06' 32" (F. Schleck) + 33h 06' 40" (Fuglsang) + 33h 06' 40" (A.Schleck) = 99h 19' 52" rather than the quoted 98h 30' 08"

For the stage however, they both had 13h 51' 03" as both teams had 3 riders finish at 4h 37' 01". 3 X 4h 37' 01" does equal 13h 51' 03", so it works out.

*Lightbulb moment*
Never mind, just figured it out. It's not the sum of the top 3 riders overall - it's the sum of the top 3 riders per stage!

So for example, if a rider on Leopard other than the Schlecks and Fuglsang finished ahead of one of those 3 in any stage, his stage time would be used for the team calculation on that specific stage and thus the team times are lower than the sum of the top 3 riders.

That make sense?

You add the top 3 riders' times per stage, not the overall top 3 riders. :butt

Excellent ride by Thor today... doing the maillot jaune some justice.

Surprised a little at Contador, thought he would be alright for the tour even with a tough giro. I know it will be in the mountains where it counts but he needs to close the gap on Schleck and Evans. Expected him to show a little more today but perhaps the giro has taken more out of him than first thought. The rest of his team doesn't seem up to much either in comparison to BMC and Trek Leopard.

Interesting days ahead.

Thor yet again sticks with the best - impressive and may even do so again tomorrow.

Good to see Sky showing throughout the stage after yesterdays shitty day with Zandio then Flecha out front and then G, EBH and Uran all finishing in top group.

Got to wonder whether G and EBH should have been directed to go straight away yesterday regardless of Wiggo as would have kept white and improved it today over surprisingly poor Gesink.

I just backed Thomas Voeckler at 11/1 (yes I know I could have got better odds on the internet) and Alexander Vinokourov at 12/1 (again yes I know I could have...) I reckon both riders are going to really want it badly, probably for different reasons but they both will see it as a missed opportunity if they can't get themselves in a position were they have a real good of take the stage out and that is what I'm betting on... that and the fact that Vinokourov has probably 2 attempts left to win another stage at the tour at the Tour - seeing this is the last year before he calls it a day and today's stage one of those stages. As for Voeckler, he as showed that he has good legs on him atm... hopefully he uses them to battle it out with Vinokourov to win todays stage. ;)

Agree with Voeckler.  But will Vino have the legs after yesterday's efforts?

Would have also included Chavanel for today's stage but he's had an awful start to the Tour so kind of ruled him out.

What about someone like Moncoutie? Or even one of the Sky riders Thomas/Hagen/Uran?

Probably Gilbert again though. ;D

Didn't realise Millar was in the crash.

13:13:55 CEST

We had a crash at 40km, with Millar (Garmin), Zeits (Astana), Zubeldia (RadioShack) and Bak (HTC-Highroad) all involved.  All are back up and going.

Two riders have already dropped off the back of the peloton:  Brutt of Katusha, and more worrisome, Robert Gesink of Rabobank.

Van den Broeck looks like end of the race for him too.
