Can't figure this out lads - need some help.
The team classification is the total time of the top 3 riders in each team, right?
According to letour.fr, the team standings are:
Standing Team Time Gaps1. TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO 98h 30' 04"
2. TEAM LEOPARD-TREK 98h 30' 08" + 00' 04"
But here's the times for those teams' top 3 riders:
Standing Rider Rider number bib Team Time Gaps1. HUSHOVD Thor 51 TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO 33h 06' 28"
3. SCHLECK Frank 18 TEAM LEOPARD-TREK 33h 06' 32" + 00' 04"
5. FUGLSANG Jakob 13 TEAM LEOPARD-TREK 33h 06' 40" + 00' 12"
6. SCHLECK Andy 11 TEAM LEOPARD-TREK 33h 06' 40" + 00' 12"
9. MILLAR David 56 TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO 33h 06' 47" + 00' 19"
21. DANIELSON Tom 52 TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO 33h 08' 25" + 01' 57"
Now 33h 06' 28" (Hushovd) + 33h 06' 47" (Millar) + 33h 08' 25" (Danielson) =
99h 21' 40" rather than the quoted
98h 30' 04"And 33h 06' 32" (F. Schleck) + 33h 06' 40" (Fuglsang) + 33h 06' 40" (A.Schleck) =
99h 19' 52" rather than the quoted
98h 30' 08"For the stage however, they both had 13h 51' 03" as both teams had 3 riders finish at 4h 37' 01". 3 X 4h 37' 01" does equal 13h 51' 03", so it works out.
*Lightbulb moment*Never mind, just figured it out. It's not the sum of the top 3 riders overall - it's the sum of the top 3 riders per stage!
So for example, if a rider on Leopard other than the Schlecks and Fuglsang finished ahead of one of those 3 in any stage, his stage time would be used for the team calculation on that specific stage and thus the team times are lower than the sum of the top 3 riders.
That make sense?
You add the top 3 riders' times per stage, not the overall top 3 riders.
