Favourite Aircraft
« on: September 20, 2005, 09:04:11 pm »
Anyone like planes/ helicopters etc? Got any particular favourites.

For me, it has to be the Harrier Jump Jet. What an invention. Vertical take off and landing, for a plane. The nozzles used for take off are also used to enhance turning ability, don't you know. Discuss please.

PS. Yes I did use search.

Ah yes, an absolutely big plane, considering it was made out of wood.  Saw it when I went to long beach in 1990.  Certainly was a big plane.  Not sure what's happened to it now as I think it got moved from long beach where the queen mary is.

Reminds me of the Wonderwoman joke:

Superman's flying over Metropolis and sees Wonderwoman lying stark naked on the roof with her legs akimbo. Never one to miss an opportunity he flys down and gives her a good seeing to at supersonic speed then flys off.

Wonderwoman says "Jesus what was that?" and the Invisible Man says "God knows but my arse is sore".

Definitely the B-2 stealth bomber. Can you even imagine the numbers of inbred feckers who thought this was a Alien craft in the testing days.

BAe use it to move bits of Airbuses round. Big, ugly cargo planes. Really don't look like they should be able to fly.

Yes!! Would you not if you were:

A- American
B- From the middle of nowhere in Texas or something (most likely to be tested in remote places)
C- Hadn't heared that an odd plane would be seen in the skys, which could be mistaken for an Ailien craft.

Added to the fact that even now you are vert unlikely to see one of these, and so really can't admire it properly.

I remember a great programme on Discovery or whatever about Lockheed and Boeing going head to head for the contract to produce the successor to the F-15. It was great to see how they tweaked things and how certain things didnt work etc...a fine ending for Lockheed was this beaut...

The Raptor? Ugly?

I think its a beaut, its also got all the technological bits and bobs odds and sods to make it the cats meow. I think - going from memory alone - that it was special because of the lines and edges that made it undetectable or something or other.

I got a soft spot for it though because of that programme, seeing it go through its stages and all that business.
