Just got it today.  I'm from Chicago, so it feels so good to have him and Common represent.

5 Stars from Rolling Stone.

Not typically 'my thing' and this is my first listen to Kanye West but have to say I'm almost converted... some decent tunes on there.

hiphop lad from garston here. absolute monster of an album, kanye's changed the game again. no better music than this. fact.

believe the hype about this one here. i've been into kanye since the dynasty back in 2000 when he produced one song on that. he's just come so far in the space of 5 years it's unreal.

Got this off me sister for me birthday, hasn't been delivered yet though.

Just watched 'All Eyes on Kanye West' on MTV Base, breath of fresh air in the rap/hip-hop game. Heard him called arrogant but I think it's more just self-belief, doesn't try to be anyone he isn't.

Im a bit behind on the Hip Hop news, but if theres any fans out there who could tell me what happened to Rocafella? Why did Dash and Jay Z split? Where did the artists go? Did they go with Dash or Jay Z?

I think Kanye went wth Jay Z, Seen an interview with him on MTV Base and Sway asked him did he think it was wrong to go with Jay when it was Dash who gave him a start and believed in him, Kanye was speechless but to his credit he answered honestly.

great interview that. basically Damon Dash and Jay-z have grown apart. that's about it really. each artist had a choice of which faction to side with, kanye chose jay-z and you're right he did answer honestly. damon dash definately had more to do with him becoming famous, he believed in him from day one. having said that it was The dynasty and The blueprint albums by Jay-z that really exposed his amazing beats.
damon and jay are smart business men though, and it's cool how they've turned their small fued into a marketing thing with this roster split and all.

Cheers mate, aye your right about them being smart business men. I like Damon Dash though, he seems like a decent bloke when you see him on the tv and all that.

I just read on a hiphop site somebody shot Suge Knight! Who'd have the balls to do that? ;D

they're not much alike, really. one is r&b/soul and kanye is hiphop.

if you like late registration, then

college dropout (2004)(kanye)
Be (2005) (common)
The blueprint (2001) (jay-z)

those are three classics (the blueprint being the best, mainly produced by kanye west)

Damon Dash is a legend, no question. the story of Roc-a-fella records is one of the best in hiphop.

For me Hip Hop / Rap music hit it's peak with Double Trouble and The Rebel MC.

all jokes aside, Kanye West is awesome, and shares a sir name with the Rebel MC (Mike West). but thats irrelevant.

I'm a Big Fan of Jurrasic 5 / The Roots and 1200 Techniques

also if you have not heard Cody ChessnutT's album = The Headphone Masterpiece. Get your ears around it asap

Jurrasic 5 are class, as are the Roots. My favourite rapper though is Ras Kass. Have you ever heard of him? If you can get hold of Soul on Ice, thats a classic album. Especially that song Nature of the Threat. Brilliant stuff. I dont mind the gangsta rap either, like Westside Connection, Ice T in his prime, Ice Cube in his early days, the whole deathrow thing. DMX is great as well, his first album still lives in my cd player ;D I love hip hop like, got hundreds of cds, underground, mainstream you name it. Not a fan of UK hip hop though but I dont mind Task force. It pisses me off when people dismiss hip hop as being all about 50 cent types, all the gangsta gangsta stuff and bitch this, shoot that, fuck the other. Not so much now but I was into the whole thing, the tagging, the break dancing, DJing and the battling.

A bloke I know is in a band called Koolism: beat 1200 Techniques to 'best urban' album last year I think in Australia at the big music awards here. Pretty good old-school type of stuff, I think some of their tracks are downloadable from somewhere.

Album of the year for me. Had it for a few weeks now, got a pre release copy through work.

Thing is, people who dont usually like that sort of music isntantly take to this and love it. Ive got a few friends who hate this type of music with a vengance, yet cant help love this album.

Kanye west is the man at the moment. However hes only miding the mantle untill jay-z decides to come out of retirement (which should be the end of the year from reports, although rumors are that he wont beback for a year or 2 because him and his gf/wife(depending on what you belive) are to have a baby).

As for the split with damon dash. The diamonds forever remix on the late registration album is different than the single and has some jayz replying to damon dashes accusations that he forced him out of rocafella and will crack under the pressure of trying to run it alone aswell as being the president of DEF JAM.

Anuone who likes this album, should definitly look up blueprint and also try and get hold of freshman adjustment(kanye wests unnoficial 2nd album, the stuff that didnt make college dropout).

Quality album, best of the year so far. Roses is the highlight of the album for me.

Kanye is good but to say he's in a league of his own or that he's just waiting for Jay to return is laughable in my opinion. Theres only one rapper whos in a league of his own and thats Nas............the man is a genius and lyrically no-one can compete with him. Sure, the production on his albums isn't as switched on as on other albums, but his flow is ridiculous and he is lyrically the best. The King of New York lives on. Oh, and he destroyed Jay with Ether!!

I've downloaded it, sounds very good.

I'd love to buy it but sadly juggling 43 fucking quid football tickets and beer money is difficult enough as it is, without the added cost of things which can be obtained for free!

I will buy it though, when I'm not skint.
