I have been waiting for 4 months to get a radiation user license.  And today I find out that although my forms were mailed to the department the day after I submitted my forms to my Radiation officer, somewhere along the line Australia post lost my forms and as a result my forms were never processed.  As a result, I've been sat the last four months sat on my arse, twiddling my thumbs.  Oh and I have been following up constantly as well.  Every time I asked the safety officer, I was told that 8 weeks was the normal duration for the license to arrive and I should just wait since a week or two's delays were common.  And now I find the forms haven't been lodged at all.  I have shit loads of pressure on me to finish my project in 1 year and through no fault of my own, I have been unable to do fuckall.  Now, I've got six months left to do almost the whole thing.  Fuck.

They can arrange for me to have a dosemeter which will allow me to work supervised but not unsupervised.  Or in other words, I can go into the radiation lab but will always have to have one of those with a license working with me.  And yeah, I should get that by next week.  I've already arranged for that to be done thanks to the Radiation officer.

Its more of a contingency plan that is generally given out to short term visitors.  Like a lot of scientists often move here for just 3 months or so and they are allowed to use this instead of getting the full license.  But since I'm there for 1 year, I didn't have the option.  Until now that is.

Surely they should make sure that all the paper work for people like yourselves is getting sorted out instead of you waiting around to be told that its been lost ect.
