Amazing films recently released that no one's ever heard of:

- Another Earth
- Snowtown
- The debt

All highly recommended for 'grown ups' rather than the short attention span / Hostel 1,2,3 short attention span crowd.

Have Google / IMDB etc.

All infinitely better than that Boardwalk Empires shite.

I've mentioned both Another Earth and Snowtown in this thread as I enjoyed them both and found them both very challenging pieces of work in their own right but for very different reasons.

Difficult to compare either of them to BE  (tv series vs. a film) but I would argue that BE was fantastic in it's first season and whilst the second season has not been as good it's starting to come to thr boil again. To call it shite is just a shite comment!

So, after the kerfuffle a little earlier in this thread about The Thing (2011 prequel), I decided to give it a go,  and I did so going into it with basement expectation. Well, those basement expectations seemed to be a little bit harsh, that is until it was that the more I watched, the more I wished I didn't. It didn't just hit basement for me, it actually tunnelled right through the fucking foundations and into another dimension. Really, I can't fathom or explain just how badly the writers and directors managed to fuck this film up. It felt as if it was written by a schoolboy fan of Carpenters 1982 vision. In fact everything about it was schoolboy, and vision is something which it lacked, which is ironic given that they seemed to have just used Carpenters film as a template from start to finish. Everything felt so rushed. It felt as if I'd put the 1982 version in the DVD and pressed skip chapter every 30 seconds, such was the horrible pacing of events of the story, or lack of therein. You're just bashed over the head from the get go. There is no slow build up, and as such absolutely zero tension resulting in it, which was Carpenters main vehicle that made his version so bloody good. I could write an entire essay as to why I felt it was such an abysmal attempt, but I won't bother. It's simply not worth my time. The joke of it all is that it shares the name of a film which I regard as one of the best of all time. If I had a top 5 list of my all time favourite films, Carpenters The Thing would be in it with no discernible order given. So in light of that, this so called sequel/prequel is nothing but a cheap imitation and an abomination. A bit like the film's subject matter. How's that for irony?

I really struggle to get through Film 2011, mainly because of Claudia Winkleman.  She comes across like a pissed up, clueless Aunt.  I have read Empire's review of 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' and they were quite impressed.

I saw it described as Baron Cohen playing an Adam Sandler character, which looks spot on. The trailer is terrible.

I wanted to watch that but downloaded Drive angry by mistake .. i'll never be the same again.
There are moments in ones life , when something extremely profound happens ... getting your eyes gauged out by an angry transvestite midget , accidentally sleeping with the mother in law you hate , finding yourself nodding in agreement with Gary Fucking Neville .. but all of those things pale in signifigance to the sheer horror of watching almost 20 minutes of Drive Angry ....

I liked Drive Angry's stupidity.

I also liked Drive Angry's stupidity, more importantly I liked Amber Heard....a lot.  Drive Angry is just a ridiculous 'B' movie, quite entertaining in my opinion.

Drive is superb.  I've seen a few people comment on how poor a year it's been for film.  Any year that includes :

Drive
The Skin I Live In
Tyrannosaur
We Need To Talk About Kevin
The Ides Of March

Can't be that bad.
