Cheers To Zico
« on: February 20, 2002, 02:54:46 pm »
As we prepare for another European night I'd like to say all the best to Phil Neal, 51 to-day,or Zico as we chanted.

Phil is only British player to appear in 5 European Cup Finals and only Red to own 4 winners medals.  In fact he played in 7 euro-finals counting UEFA final legs.

He was our top goal scorer in the 4 Champions finals with 3 goals including the shoot-out.This was when it was Champions only in the European Cup.

He won 8 league championship medals equalled only by Jocky, and played in all the 6 League Cup Finals, including the replays, in the early 80's.

We didnt think we would see another goal scoring full back after Chris Lawler, but Phil proved us wrong with some great goals. Rome in '84 was his most valuable, what was he doing up there!

Add to all this 50 caps and for those who did'nt see him play, you can see he was one of our finest Reds.

Cheers "ZICO".

Sorry ttnbd , but offal also shows its his 51st to-day. Its on history of managers /players. I got my info from Express but have checked offal.

Another record I've discovered whilst searching , is that he holds Liverpool record for most consecutive appearances at 365. Not bad eh?

One website put Neal's birthdate as 29 February 1951 - they are wrong, of course - 1951 wasn't a leap year!

365 games? That's like playing a football match every day for a whole year! Crazy...
